That's probably about right. Where did you get those numbers from? Black Book?

MyZ4U2C 04-11-2011 05:05 PM

I would like to know where u got the numbers as well...I assume that is about right, just would like to know besides the invoice threads such as american express car buying program which is the best I have seen to give me a idea.

I'm in the process of negotiating a 2011 Touring + Sport + Navi down to 32k right now.

Ambidxtrous 04-11-2011 06:31 PM

Percentage Margins are very helpful in determining how much a dealer purchases a car for their inventory. Though never accurate, these are mere estimates.

Dealership Estimated Margin of Profit

Large Mark up percentages on initial purchase price

3-4% profit from Financing (example: They make $900-$1200 in $30,000 that is Financed.

2-3% Manufacture floor or hardback incentives from MSRP (around $720)

3% Profit margin for Dealer Fees (For 370z $1000 profit is not uncommon)

Brand name. 370z have a strong brand name. Dealers keep these cars overpriced and sometimes order a fewer amount to control and tighten their inventory costs. Making these cars more overvalued

NOTE: No dealer will not sell at their true cost or near it. It is counterproductive on their sales philosophy and or goals. It is not something you should aim to do as well. The costs of running a dealership are significant. So it's important for them to maintain healthy sales margins.

Unless you have some kinda connection to the dealership, I can't see how you could get a touring + sport + nav for that price.

Is this the net price after trade?

Thats like 5.5k below invoice..

No ties to the dealership, no trade but I'm putting about 15k down on it and financing for 72 months. No early payment penalties so when the first payments made after I buy the car, the month after that I plan on just paying off the rest of the car.

Wow! Let us know if you get it for that and send pics. I've been keeping my eye on one with same options, but about 38k before TTL

Yeah that deal is a little too good to believe.

Profit Nissan Dealers try to Obtain from each major sale. $8000 to $10,000. Typical profits range from $5000 to $7000 with Savy buyers. You can push them down to making $4,000 profit if you are a really good negotiator.

What??

We make 1000.00 if we sell the car at invoice. Which I would love too.

KaienZ34 04-14-2011 02:03 PM

I just had to run out and order mine in the begining of jan 09. Before i had ever seen the car in real life. I was a blonde **** hair away from buying the 350 nismo, when i found some real pics and info on the 370. I had to have it, so like a dummy i went in with LARGE cashdown payment that did nothing by the way, ordered it and after TTL and the other bs. I walked out with no car, none made in the package i wanted PW/7AT tour/sport for 40K, monthly payment of 320. I know you can do better, i just couldn't wait so i had to pay the price.

Published Invoice prices aren't the invoice prices dealers are purchasing the cars for. Such as Edmunds, Kellyblue book, etc. These are third party sources, that base their estimates from other sources than the actual dealerships. Maybe statistics on the average selling price customers pay, plus any other stats that are highly inaccurate.

True Dealer Cost is very confidential and one can only see in the accounting books of an auto dealership. Because you would have to take into consideration many other factors such as financing leverage, how many cars sell, how many are ordered, etc.

Nobody can obtain the 'true' dealer cost..not even the sales employees.

That's the very challenge. The whole idea here is to provide estimates and information for people on this forum to use as a tool. The more people are posting, the more trends you see in OTD and selling prices. I plan to purchase a 370z Touring with Sports Package in the LA area and will post all my information; on what selling price they agreed to, how much I financed, at what APR, terms, Tax rate, Dealership fees total.

Because obviously if i went through with financing it for 72months that the dealership would make close to 12k in profit? From the salesguys perspective I would count that as a win..until I paid the car off early.

I'd love to see your credit score if the dealer is making 12k in profit off of your loan.

Just playing with the numbers, but if the purchase price is 32K with 6% tax (i dont know what it is in Connecticut) and ~500 in fees, you are looking at 34.5k OTD. Put down 15k that leaves 19.5k for the loan. Add 12k in "dealer profit" and you get 31.5k. Divide that by 72 months and you get 437.5. To get to a monthly payment of 437.5 you would need to be approved for 72mo @ 17.25%.

2011 Nismo#91 04-15-2011 07:18 AM

LoL, that's like my credit card rate.
Anyways the Edmund, kbb, etc. sites invoice prices are fairly accurate because they get the numbers right from dealerships employee's or other people in the business. They maybe a percent or two off but that's about it. There are other factors that can help the dealer sell under invoice price but they are small not on the order of 20% below.

Rabbity 04-15-2011 07:21 AM

@NCSU
When I was at the dealership I was just playing with numbers as well trying to see how low they would go and that's what it came out to. But as far as paying goes I'd essentially pay it off close to 2 months after leaving the lot.

*Edit*
If it helps the dealership that I went to was Barberino Nissan.

*Edit2*
@Nismo
One of the factors of the dealership I went to as well was that at least in CT they sell Pathfinders/Xterras/every nissan SUV/Truck under the sun and especially Versa's like it's going out of style, but as far as Z cars go they have a handful of 2009's and 2010's sitting in their auxiliary lot. I'm not saying it's fact that it dropped the price or maybe because they just want to push it so they don't end up like the other cars on the lot.
