check kbb.com and use the "fair" condition price as your baseline trade-in. also get a free apprasial from carmax if you have one locally. you can use that as your dealing tool at the end when you're trading in, or just sell to carmax and do 2 transactions.

note that you can save some $ on tax if you trade-in so calculate that as well.

work the new car price first without telling them much about the trade-in. dont look excited when you're at the dealer, just look like you're at a super market to buy some babyfood for your kids (well, if you have kids). look boring, yet committed to buy.

btw, from an adult perspective... if you're a student and have limited budget, why even drive a sports car? just drive watever your parents gave you until you get a real job.

GL!

Also evaluate why you are buying a NISMO over other models of 370Zs. There is little difference in performance but a lot of difference in price.

Thank you for your help! Just got the quote from carmax.

"note that you can save some $ on tax if you trade-in so calculate that as well." What is that mean?

Ok, then.. I know how to negotiate with them now.
Coz they bought me a Infiniti G37, but I found out I love 370z more than it.. Then I am thinking to buy it by my own.

I know!! It's much more expensive. Since I don't know modified the car, and I love the nismo sexy body kit. So I want to buy it!!

I believe If you sell the car out right you have to report it as income and pay taxes on it but if you trade in the car it's not reported as income and you don't need to pay taxes. So if figuring out of you should sell or trade subtract the taxed amount from would you would get for selling the car. That is the amount you need to compare to trade in value.

I just negotiated a price of $37,500 for a loaded 2011 370Z Nismo. I unfortunately didn't pull the trigger because of my trade in. You should be paying no more than what I stated above being that this price is about $200 to $300 over dealer invoice.

Like another forum member told me, anything above invoice is a rip off.

Good luck with your search!!

I purchased my 2011 Nismo just 2 weeks ago and got the price down to $37,500. Only buy the car if you can afford the monthly payment and required maintenance. Consider that you may have negative equity carried over if you decide to trade the G37x. Since you stated that you are on a limited budget and currently a student, I would hold off on the Nismo until you are more financially secure (example: college degree, place to live, and savings fund). You own a very nice car and i would keep it.

Thank you your explanation, it helps a lot!!

keith4k 02-09-2011 07:43 AM

37,500? Could you tell me how you can get that good price? Since I am not good at negotiate about the price. Tell me some detail about how, please!!

keith4k 02-09-2011 07:47 AM

I am an international student, so my parents pay for my g37x by cash, no need monthly payment. My budget is about 6,000-10,000. Do you think it's possible?

Nismo-Z 02-09-2011 08:21 AM

It really depends on what the dealer will offer for the trade, the additional coverages you may buy, and whether market price in your area will allow it to be sold for around invoice
You may need to pay for sales tax, licensing fees and any other dealer fees. So figure an extra $2k -3k on top of base price. The negotiations may require you to be patient and firm on price. I know when I was negotiating for my Nismo the dealer was reluctant to let it go; however, I purchased 3 Z cars from that dealer before so it was easier.

how much are they giving you on the G37?
how many miles does it have on there?
are there any issues with it?
do you drive it hard?

ClemsonWill 03-16-2011 07:13 PM

If you are looking to throw another 6-10K on top of your "paid off" trade in, you should be good. Depending on condition, miles, etc of your 10 G37x it should be worth at least $30K trade in.

Kenchan made a great suggestion. Take your G to Carmax and see what they will give you for it. It's almost always on the low end of what other dealers will give you for it as a trade in.
