altima coupe trade in for z

just curious if i wanted to trade in my altima for a 370z would i have less bargaining options since its trade in? i was hoping for invoice but i read some threads and notice that alot of people that did trade ins paid higher for the 370z.

No, you work the deal in two parts.
A) Price of the Z
B) Trade in price

Don't mention you have a trade in until after the negotiation. Work out a price on the Z that is what you are comfortable with, then once that is finalized, you work out what your trade in is worth. Expect something around 14 tops if you have a 2.5s altima. Thats what they offered me. I said 'no thanks' and sold it for 17 privately.

:iagree: I would try and sell it privately first. Your will get more for it and the person buying your car will pay less than what a dealer would sell it for. It's a pretty popular car, so I don't think you will have a hard time selling it yourself. Whatever you do, don't mention you have a trade-in until the sale price of the Z is finalized and in writing. Negotiate from below invoice and work your way up. Be prepared to leave if you don't like the price. There are also a few dealers on the forum that can get you the car below invoice, but I'm not sure if the dealerships are close to NY. Good luck!

I had a 2.5s coupe with 20k and no options and the dealer gave me $16.2k. Just get a good deal on the Z, then afterwards "decide" to trade it. I'm not sure how it works for you, but in Nebraska you only pay sales tax on the difference, so even if I could have gotten $18k private for my Altima, it wasn't worth the hassle because I would have netted only like $300 more and no guarantee of when I would get rid of it.
