Property Taxes on your Z

I did a search on "Tax" and it didn't return anything so here it goes.

South Carolina caps the sales tax @ $300.00. This may go away sometime but for now I love that about SC.

However, I just got my property tax bill in the mail. When you get a new tag it is due 120 day after purchase. The bill was for $530.00. :shakes head:

Just wonder if other states pay property tax and if so how much do you pay.

Mine was in the $400 dollar range, I believe. Sales tax was 5x what I would have payed in SC.

sounds like calilfornia with their rip-off DMV years ago...

just got mine in the mail last week, up here in Boston they hit me with 625.00 dollars, ouch. A few years back i owned a 1997 jeep wrangler and used to pay 40.00 a year haha. I love how the government taxes everything, especially those with nice things. I hate taxes in general, but this tax every year for some reason makes me soooo angry.

I don't understand why owning a nicer car means having to pay higher property tax. There should be a flat "auto tax" for every car you own, dependent on your state/county.

Some nasty, beat up pickup truck dumping black smoke, pieces of rusted bumper, and chewing through gas at 7mpg should have to pay higher taxes to drive on the roads than what our Z does...not vice versa.

hey Scruggy, I paid $560 in Greenville County

Excise tax here in OK was 1100 dollars for the Z. OK FTL!

I'm confused. So in some states the car license is included in a property tax bill? When I think property tax it's for real estate.

NC has a yearly personal property tax on autos (in fact all personal property is theoretically taxable, although not really enforced except for cars and boats) based on their resale value. I think I paid in the neighborhood of $500 last year when my 370z was new. It will drop each year. I have a '92 Explorer sport that I paid $27 for this year.

It sucks but NC state income tax is pretty low, so they nickel and dime you to make up the difference. I agree that the tax should be based on emission quality instead of year and value, that's a great idea imo.

Yes, here is SC we pay property tax every year when we renew our registration. On cars, boats and motorcycles...etc.

Ouch, in PA we pay no personal property tax to the state, it's up to the locality to charge it, i'm pretty sure most don't even do that, I know mine doesn't. But of course we pay the full 6% sales tax + income taxes.

Yea f u c k that! Not in NJ!

In Arkansas, I paid around $1600 in sales tax at the time of purchase and then another $27 or $32 or something for the plate, then I changed the plate to personalized for an additional $28 and now I get to pay a personal property tax on the car each year.

Arkansas assesses a personal property tax on anything of value like a 4 wheeler, motorcycle, boat, JetSki, trailer, car.

Score!

LOL...Yeah, but look at your real estate taxes!...

My house would be $10K plus in some areas of NJ...$2600 here. I'll pay a $500 personal property tax any day in lieu of the other..

There is no free lunch.
