Dealer Offer: What Say You?

I've been looking for a Z for quite some time. I have been trying to buy find a used car that meets my strict criteria to save some money, but that is proving difficult. I can afford new, but prefer not to take what I feel is a significant initial depreciation hit.

I've been in discussions with a local dealer via email and he has offered me the car I want most for $30,500, which is a 2009 Monterey Blue 6MT + Sport. That seems like a fairly meh deal for a 2009. However, he is also offering me a Pearl White 6MT Touring+Sport for $32,000. That's about $5k under MSRP and significantly below invoice. It's still a bit more than I want to spend (I'm really looking for a used 6MT+ Sport for closer to $25-$26k), but it is doable financially. He says they will offer me great financing rates to close the gap between what they offered and what I want, but unless that rate is almost 0%, it won't be enough.

Based on how much you paid (or others you know), is this a good deal?

Invoice for the '09 base + sport + MT (and depending on extras) is probably slightly over 31k. You should be able to much better than 30.5k. For the touring + sport that offer seems great and is a little over 3k under invoice. Something almost seems a little fishy here with what he is offering between the 2 cars. Why is he offering such a great deal on one and not the other? Could just be a case of a salesman being a salesman and trying to get you into the more expensive ride. If you really want the MB, I'd push him a lot harder on it. If he were offering the same deal on both cars you should be able to get the MB for slightly over 28k.

Now into mid-apr almost may I'd say he can do better on the MB. I got mine for 200more last month. Now we're full bore into spring and with the 2010s you should be able to do better I'd say. 32k for the PW is a nice price but kinda makes me wonder. Also, for 5k more to own new, I'd say go for new. Be the first to fart in your seat and not have to worry about the previous owners habits. If you're not planning on keeping it for a long time or plan to beat the crap out of it maybe the used car would be worth it. Good luck

5K off is pretty good. There still isn't a lot of 2010 out yet.

I spent 6 months looking for a Monterey Blue 6MT before going with silver. Which dealer?

This is North Bay Nissan in Pleasanton. I believe they are offering me the PW Touring+Sport for a better deal because they have that car in inventory and have for at least the past few months (since I've been checking). They do not have a Monterey Blue, but the sales manager said he could get it for me at the price I posted. I'm really in love with the MB, so I'm definitely going to push him to drop the price on it. Most of the MB's I find are automatics which I will not consider.

The initial email I sent them offered $33k OTD for the PW car. I based that price on a Craigslist ad the dealer posted for a brand new PG 370Z, fully-loaded including navigation, listed for $32,9xx. I will also ask specifically why they are offering me a better deal on the PW to see if their response is suspect.

Yeah that 1st year hit on the Z is ridiculous. A fully loaded 09 Z manual shouldn't be more than 32k. 33k if its auto. The base+sport manual should be around 26k give or take a grand. The only thing you should consider when buying used is this. Someone who owned a Z for less than a year and traded it most likely flogged the sh1t out of it. Be careful.

Maybe they are pushing the PW because they do not have the MB in stock?

Just FYI. I got a 2009 MT MB Touring Sport with the white leather with 17k miles for under $29k out the door. Unknown bonus....it had $3,000 worth of performance parts on it that I didn't know about till I got there.

There is always a deal to be had. Just have to be patient.

The 370 is still fairly new and rare. You may have to wait a bit longer to find what you are looking for. But the prices you have been offered are also pretty good IMO.
