370Z, Do I make the deal or wait?!!

I really don't know what to do here. I purchased a 2009 Maxima 5 months ago because I really liked how it looked and performed and after going to the dealer for some maintenance I fell in love with the 370Z. I should have started off saying that I am an impulse buyer and i has got me in alot of trouble and debt, but we only live once. Anyway, I need some advice. I talked to the General Sales Manager and after he valued my trade (I owe 37,000) and put in the picture a White 370Z touring, M/T, sport package (stickered at 41,000 something), he came up with the number 869/mo. with 2,000 down. I would be financing a little over 49,000. I told him that I needed to think about it and so I went to another dealership a week later to see if they could do better and this dealership said that they couldn't even come close to that number (869/mo.), so I went back to the first dealership and told them that I was interested in their offer and the Sales Manager said that he would locate a white one for me, because they only had a black and a silver, if I "agreed to make the deal" right there. I needed someone to talk to and unfortunatly I can't talk to my parents because they just don't understand my love for cars and I really don't have alot of friends because I'm new to Georgia. What should I do? Is 869/mo. rediculous for this car? Am I rediculous for even thinking about making this deal? Help me!

Yes it is ridiculous. Your right you only live once but I'd rather live stress free and live as long as possible. I know plenty of people that drown themselves like this for what I consider short term satisfaction and ultimately live miserably. Anyhow it's not like you have a horrendous car...

I wish I thought like you. This is good advice though and you're right, I don't drive anything to be ashamed of. The new Z is amazing though. Thanks!

ya man keep the maxima drive the deprecation out of it then sell it and then get the Z or what ever else is out there in a few years.

I don't know if I can wait 3 years, but I think you and ZMan are right. I guess it would be pretty rediculous having a car payment greater than a rent payment.

Thanks Shumby.

$869 per month??? Holy crap. Don't do it, man. "Pay it forward" only works for so long. Take it from a fool who now knows much better.

Well how much is too much?

How long you have pay $869/month?

jeepersnate 01-14-2009 09:55 PM

72 months

That's way too much for a car payment. That better be at least 1/4 or 1/5 of your monthly income intake. If it's half of your income then you're paying way too much for a car.

I know I can't afford one right now so I will save for close to 2 years before I get one.

Well it's 1/3 of my monthly intake. I could always get a roommate and pay half what I am paying now for rent and save 400+ dollars, but everyone is making good points.

Thanks Brisk. If you wind up at the Nissan dealership test drive a new Maxima.....they are fun to drive. Not as fun as the Z, but still pretty fun.

The price is too high. I just purchased one just over invoice. Look at my other posts for contacts to lower priced dealers...

Oh my goodness, please please don't do that! I don't even know you and would hate for you to make that mistake.
