You know...That's a bit harsh. I've worked with Hundreds and hundreds of dealers over the years (professionally) and that's not the business model. Walk in with a chip on your shoulder and that's what you'll get. My last 3 new car transactions were very pleasurable (Honda, Chevy, and Nissan). A knowledgeable consumer can call his own shots within reason. Act stupid and you'll likely get the same approach from the dealership.
There are dealers here like Fusz who will treat you fairly and still offer the best pricing. My buddy Zpirate just had his new 370 delivered from them and had a great experience. Vote with your dollars. Game players don't get mine.

I had a GREAT experience with my dealership, as well as another I visited while shopping.

I did, however, have a bad experience at one while shopping around.

How's the song go? "Two out of three ain't bad." :rofl2:

The whole STEALERSHIP thing is a bit rough considering everyone is looking to see how much less than 2000 behind invoice they should offer. I think most dealerships are gonna treat customers the way they deserve to be treated, make a fair offer and get treated fairly.

Don't mean to vent, but everyone knows what dealers pay for cars and everyone wants to pay less, it gets tiring!

Here's the thing though, these dealerships that I have visited all have 4-5 2009s on the lot. They either have 2010s on the lot or 2010s on their way, and they aren't really going to be selling these in December/January, so whats going to happen is I'm going to end up walking into a dealership at the end of January and get the car for what these "stealerships" are looking at me crazy for what I'm offering today.

In other words, these are reasonable offers because you must take into account the possibility of actually selling a 2009 in the middle of winter for Invoice while 2010s are on the lot. It is not going to happen. Unless of course you are a better cars salesman than Ashley Schaeffer of Ashley Schaeffer Bmw.

P.S. please don't be offended by this post. Were all venting.

your insightfulness to the OPs question is as inlightning as your since of humor

j.arnaldo 12-14-2009 11:33 AM

First things first: That's "sense of humor", not "since of humor". 2nd. Reality is harsh: Do lawyers manipulate the law to get scoundrels back on the street? Yep. Do bankers manipulate politicians to get breaks that the average taxpayer doesn't get? Yep. Do politicians make promises they KNOW they won't keep? Yep. Do "dealerships" manipulate, lie and pose as your "friends" to screw you? Yep. Reality IS harsh.

Bump for this.

Of course everyone now knows what dealers pay, but only because of the internet. The playing field has leveled for the consumer. The informed consumer gets the best deal.

It's the lousy dealers that brand the rest of you. (As in any other business). One lousy dealer's reputation unfortunately is worth about 100 dealers with impeccable reputations.

Even more against you (for public opinion) are the shady used-car lots. My wife once bought a used car from some scumbags in our town. We had looked at a few cars on their lot a week earlier, and in a fit of blatant a$$holery, she stopped by again and bought the car for asking price, along with a worthless "bumper-to-bumper, one hundred thousand mile extended warranty :bowrofl:" (the car already showed 83k on the odo, so this warranty was going to last through 180,000 miles? :icon14:). She was so excited to show me the car when I got home that day...of course I was PISSED, lol. This was early in our marriage and let's just say I was unaware at the time how naive she is :shakes head:.

To make a loooong story short, the engine had been replaced (funny how that did not show up in the spotless Carfax) with a tired beater engine that had a bunch of stop-leak poured into it and the engine failed 1000 miles later. It took me a lot of my time to get restitution throught the courts. I've been bad-mouthing them ever since, even to the point where I was walking by the lot one day and yelled out to a prospect looking at a car: "They are thieves! Do not buy anything from these people!". That caused some commotion on the lot :icon17:.
