Dealer said it would take 8 months to order a Z?!

I was at the dealer yesterday and asked about how long it would take to order a Z direct from the factory (I don't want random holligans to have test driven my car).

He told me it would take 8 months!

That sounds somewhat absurd. Is that really how long it takes?

Lukcas61 07-19-2015 10:56 AM

Wouldn't really know about that but maybe if you wanted certain features/packages with certain colors then I wouldn't put it past them. Most dealers I found when looking at the new Z is that they order maybe 1 or 2 of the most basic ones with the most popular colors.

MagmaRed370z 07-19-2015 11:05 AM

I have experienced 2-3 months. 8 is excessive.

Zoren 370 07-19-2015 03:31 PM

Look around on other dealers in a 150 miles radius.

Got mine 200miles away sitting on car display for 8 months in a Nissan dealership, gave me 3K discount just to buy it.

Your dealer is just lazy to search other Nissan dealers for a trade.
Maybe the option trims your looking for is hard to come by?

lgarcia 07-19-2015 04:44 PM

Go to other dealers, you should be able to find the one you want.

Spooler 07-19-2015 06:13 PM

Don't forget, new Z's are assembled in Japan. They have to take a boat ride after they are built. All vins that start with a J are this way.

The problem is, I don't *want* one from another dealer.

I want a minty fresh Z direct from the factory and not abused on test drives.

BMW can get custom orders from Europe to the US in three months, I don't see why it should Nissan eight months to get a custom order from Japan.

However, I suspect that the dealer was just lying to me in some stupid attempt to get me to buy what he had in stock (which had an auto and was the wrong color).

jshare1 07-19-2015 08:51 PM

.... then go to a different dealer

JARblue 07-19-2015 09:18 PM

Have you considered asking the dealer to check cars at port or on their way? These cars haven't been molested yet and are just on their way to stock US dealer inventory. Most are not reserved and can be claimed by any dealer before they leave port. You just have to find one that meets your requirements.

Interesting idea! Thanks for the tip.

How many miles constitutes hooliganism. I pulled up cars.coms and for a 500 mile radius of me and 90% of he new Zs had 4 miles

Magic Bus 07-20-2015 06:20 PM

Special ordered my Z through a local dealer. Just a few days over 3 months to receive it. No way 8 months on a specially ordered Z.

90 ST 07-20-2015 06:25 PM

Over night it from Japan, If Dom can do it at Harry's you should be able to also.

But seriously, 4 months tops, one is probably already on it's way.

My initial thought was "Why wouldn't the sales person want to order you a Z and make some money?" After reading your comment, I realized you're probably right. Why put off a sale for months when you can (try to) make one today!

I may need to. I want to be ready for Race Wars! :rofl2:

August production starts tomorrow. we order tomorrow and Friday, the cars are built between August and September, Japan built cars arrive between September and October. Its 90 days, maybe 120 if you miss the order period and it goes in a month later.

I can check port inventory in the Northeast as well, fresh cars that arrive within 2 weeks.

volusia 07-22-2015 07:36 PM

If you're concerned about these cars get test driven, you should see them techs test driving these things in name of "PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) ". It will make your heart drop because seeing nothing but a bunch of Altimas and Sentras, when they see one it gets driven HARD. And yes it is a MANDATORY REQUIREMENT per PDI process.

Thanks for the info.

I'm thinking, then, that I may wait until next year to order one. This is going to be a summer-only car for me. Not much point in getting one if, by the time it arrives, it's just going to immediately be put in the garage.

DPE G 07-23-2015 05:33 PM

I ordered mine in August and took delivery the first week of December. That was the build process plus shipping time, the car was not even on the line when I made the purchase. The dealer definitely wants to sell what they have, or dealer trade to get you what you want.

/Angelo350Z/ 07-23-2015 08:16 PM

I ordered a 350Z back in 2008 and the dealer told me it would take six months. I said it was fine and put down my deposit. After four months, the dealer called, apologized, and said the car they ordered turned out to be the 370Z, which wasn't even released yet. I'm speculating, but perhaps the Z35 is near production?

If only..

ej z34 08-13-2015 07:44 PM

your dealer lost their mind lol. My full JDM Zele Body kit and Varis Hood are all custom to be made order items only took 12 weeks. So no way it should be 8 months.

KrnShawty 11-05-2015 11:54 PM

My Z took 4 months to get to NJ.

forget overnighting. Dom had his stuff in a matter of minutes. just make sure you put it on your tab at Harry's, and when you're not working there, you're working at Dom's garage. if you can't find the right tools in there mr. quarter mile at a time, you don't belong near a car.

you do realize there are alot of nissan dealerships other than the one you've spoken with, right? try searching outside the quarter mile radius.

jhtran13 11-10-2015 03:56 PM

dude lol i bought mine with ~ 10 miles? I know that I would abuse my Z more than the test car drivers so lol

kenchan 11-10-2015 04:07 PM

dang.. one more month and a human being can be built from scratch. :ugh:
