Wrapping a car is cheaper than paint and easy to change colors or unwrap to go back to your original paint color.

I see. Is it as shiny as a paint does it need to waxed, does it fade?

No need to wax. Depending on which vinyl wrap you go with and how much sun exposure is has will determine when and if it fades. Could be 5 years could be 10, similar to paint if you take care of if it'll last a long time if you don't it won't last at all.
