Yeah, try metering on a darker part of the car. Not necessarily the darkest shadows, but somewhere in the middle for a compromise.
You'll need to set your camera to spot metering or something that allows you to measure the light and calculate the exposure for a specific area of the picture before recomposing the shot.

Thanks. Trying hard to keep it clean. On my 2nd set of Costco microfiber towels. Those neon yellow things work wonders. Also, the car has been rained on only once and it got washed under the rain before getting into the garage.
