That's awesome! How did you do the light effect?

Ron 10-23-2013 02:18 PM

It's a 10s exposure. I walked behind the car with the flashlight of my phone while the shutter was open.

Then you edited yourself out of the pic, like they do with a rig shot?

Ron 10-23-2013 03:39 PM

Nope. On long exposures, as long as there is no direct light shining on you and you move quick enough, the camera wont see you.

The aperture on the lens is so small that the sensor on the camera needs more time to "collect" light in order to get a clear image of the subject. So if you are not a source of light and are moving, you are invisible!

Of course, there are a lot of factors affecting the result, but you get the idea. :)

Yep...this technique is used alot in the studios in Detroit , and with the company i used to work for. Sometimes if you dont' have the motion light as we called it, we would use Lightroom and Photoshop to create this effect using the outline. :) Very nice job Ron! :)

Ron 10-23-2013 05:16 PM

Thank you! I want to do it again but with better lighting and see if I can get a steadier outline. This was an improvised shoot with my roommate lol. Here are a few more from that night
