Trade In

Has anyone inquired about how much you Z would be worth at trade in?
The wife and I were looking at the Jeep GC,and ask what they'd give us on the Z.
KBB say 28750, the dealer came back with 23250. He say that KBB was way to high. I LOL as I walked out the door, the GC price was close to 40 g's. A sale that's not going to happen.

The Car is Perfect with only 9100 miles

kenchan 11-27-2010 07:12 AM

Try carmax to sell.

m4a1mustang 11-27-2010 07:17 AM

Take it to Carmax for an appraisal. At the very least, the dealer should offer what Carmax offers.

When I traded my '09 Touring/Sport 6MT no-nav with 27.5k miles on it I got $26k.

Shift 11-27-2010 07:46 AM

Already did guys the said 25000. because they would have to take all the goodies off the car.

ImportConvert 11-27-2010 07:48 AM

Oddly, the mark-up on the Jeep GC's (unless you get "dealer added items") is 5-7%. Most other companies are 8-12%. I am kindof shocked.

Cars with lots of add-ons are definitely harder to sell, so you probably won't get a great trade in. I'd PM FuszNissan and see what he would offer for the car just to get a fair idea.

I think the going rate for mods is 4-50% if self-installed, and mabye up to 60-65% if someone like LPE/Heffner/Shelby, etc. installs it.

m4a1mustang 11-27-2010 08:40 AM

If you are selling privately, sure, but most of the time mods can cost you if you are selling to a dealer. It's much harder to sell a modded car than it is a stock one.

Obviously if it's a serialized car like a Shelby it is going to fetch more.

Removed what you can if you are serious on a trade-in and put it back as close to stock as you can.

We found a dealer today that worked with us, got 27500. I wanted 28 even, so all is good.
My son is mad at me because I never let him drive the Z, and now it's gone. He'll live he is only 19

$27,500 is a really good number on a trade. Good luck with the Jeep.

He's gonna come back with a sweet car and he wont let your drive it, I tell ya that.

speedworks 11-27-2010 06:04 PM

Great trade in, but does that mean they took it through the new car price? What did you pay for that vs invoice?

mdbrich 11-27-2010 06:35 PM

Get quotes from Carmax, as well as a bunch of other dealers, bring those to the dealer you want to buy from. Have then negotiate the best deal they can.

Same here, lol. My Dad and my Cousin always talked smack about my mustang (in jest) while building his 408ci '67 coupe. The '67 still needs transmission work and I am just a few months from ordering my Z. I am going to crush that car and they knows it :p

Great deal on your trade, btw. !

Never pay over invoice. There is still about 2K or so in dealer hold-back that is profit. If you bought at invoice, the dealership still made enough to keep the lights on, pay the employees, and grow, and noone screwed anyone over UNLESS you beat up the sales person. Know what you want, and your sales-person is just filling out paper-work for $1-200.

Basically, they will make about $50/hr for the time they deal with you on this "mini-deal". To me, that is fair. I used to work for Ford, and when I made mini-deals where the customer came in, knew what they wanted, could buy, and just had me fill out papers, I was happy to get my (then) $100 for that little work.

speedworks 11-27-2010 09:24 PM

^^precisely. I'm not paying invoice, but am asking what the OP payed compared to invoice so we can understand if the trade in $ was exchanged for new car price.

Zsteve 11-27-2010 09:36 PM

I just traded my Z in for a vette and they tried to give 2600 under excellent condition. My car was 26,500 KBB and they went way under at first. I guess these things are hard to re-sell for what they are worth.

Yep, I would give the OP 100K for his 370Z if he gave me 108K for my G20 :)

Well, Nissan has had to cut production of them due to slow sales, and every lot I go to has a ton of them sitting inside, outside, etc. in Nismo, Touring, 40th flavors, etc.

I think the new Camaro, and new mustang have really hurt sales. A lot of people (myself included) are looking at the price-tag, and looking at the horsepower, and going with the other available options and feeling (right or wrong) patriotic about buying an "american" car.

I have seen 370's sitting in ford and gm lots a lot, lately, as well.

Well GM got another sittin in their lot now. I needed new tires and that was part of the reason they low balled me. The 2010 had been on the lot for awhile so they cam off of it to add to the trade in. They still made money tho.

GM marks up the 'vette around 9.5-10% above invoice, and above and beyond that, is about 2K dealer hold-back.

When I buy, Invoice is the starting point of negotiations. I have already gotten the manager to commit to a sale at invoice on a new Z. I told him if he wanted the sale--and I wanted to buy local--that was the stipulation, otherwise I would pay $950 and have someone ship it to me that would go to and below invoice. Plenty of GM dealers do.

Money down is nice, but the point I think is good to stop at is where you cover TTL + attain equal-equity. At that point, just finance it. Otherwise you're just waiting, and whats $2-300 more in a note once a month?

exactly what I did with the vette. paid the TTL and then kinda fianaced it, since its 0% financing. But now every penny goes to principle.

You might be better off removing the add ons and swapping any stock stuff you have laying around. If you tossed or sold them you might be able to find them for sale here or craigslist. Then turn around and sell your mods to other members. You'd probably get a better price on the car and mods that way.

thats what i hate about dealerships. When i traded in my Z, it had some mods on it. Dealership wouldnt give me anything extra for them. But when i asked them to lower the price on the srt-10 ram i was buying, they said no and tried to use the excuse that the truck already had a intake, exhaust and a custom sound system in it, so it was worth more. But somehow my Z wasnt worth more with the mods in it...go figures...

Nice. Careful on a used dodge, though. A lot of people over-pay. A used dodge pick-up was the biggest commission I ever made.

Well at the time i was looking there was 3 srt-10s within my province. One of them was 2,000 less then mine and only had 17,000km on it, my truck when i picked it up had 81,000km. However the other truck was rear-ended and the dealership put a new rear bumper on it. The other one, i didnt like the guys at the dealership at all. I drove 5 hours with my 370z to that dealership and they wouldnt let me test drive it until i said "ok, cya" and as i was opening the car door they came out with the keys. Then during the test drive i could hear and feel something wrong with the brakes. The guy said all the brakes were just replaced. I wanted to see paperwork but they wouldnt show me, and they wouldnt lower the price of the truck for the brakes. I told them to give me a day or two to think it over and discuss it with the wife. The next day they called me and asked if i wanted it and they needed a answer now due to someone that came in, willing to put 10 grand down and take it then and there. So i said "fine, let him have it" That was about 6 months ago and the truck is still sitting at that dealership.

I decided to pick this one because it had a clean title and had a nice sound system and a few other mods already done. The sales guy was amazing, he was new and only been in the trade for 3 weeks so he didnt know all the bs lies. Although the sales manager was the prick and wouldnt give me anything for the mods but wouldnt lower the price of the truck since it had mods. Told them to give me 3 days to take the mods off and they did. In the end, i couldnt be happier. Sure i miss the Z, but it wasnt what i needed.

Those SRT-10s are unique vehicles, for sure!

Snakes709 11-29-2010 01:57 PM

thats one of the reasons why i bought one. I got the Z, wanting to be different, at the time i only seen one other Z on the road. About 3 months after i got the car, there were 370z's all over the place. I have only seen 2 SRT-10 Rams where i live on the road. One is supercharged and one has a mild engine build. Me and the guy with the supercharger are going to be going against each other in the summer at the 1/4. His RC with a blower, mine is a QC with nitrous...lol.

Dpeters 11-29-2010 04:19 PM

I bought the wife a 2011 Grand Cherokee Limited and gotta say that sucker is one awesome vehicle. I was thoroughly impressed with Jeep's redesign.

Shift 11-30-2010 07:00 PM

The Overland was Really nice as well.

Shift 11-30-2010 07:02 PM

Benz and Chrysler designed the Grand Cherokee for 2011. I think they did a good job over all
