Engine Shut-Down and Clutch

I recently purchased an '09 year model. Three things I noticed:

1) The engine runs or idles differently when I depress and release the
clutch. It's almost like I hear a switch when I release the clutch. Is this
normal?
2) When I turn off the engine, there is a second of what I call run-on. A
friend has a new Altima and that motor shuts down immediately.
3) When I shift from 1st to 2nd gear and sometimes from 2nd to 3rd gear I
can distinctly hear what I call the linkage. It is much quieter when shifting in higher gears.

I am not a nuts and bolts guy, but to me these items sound rather odd to me for this vehicle. I have never driven another 370 so maybe these 'noises' are the norm??

Thanks for any input...

Kevin

You will learn that the phrase "that's normal" is very common around here. (for good reason)

Could someone elaborate a little more on number 1?

I have noticed this on my Z but just assumed that it was normal for our cars after hearing the same sound coming from other 370's while watching videos searching for a CBE for my car.

There is a switch on the clutch pedal that will disengage the cruise control when pressed in (similar to the brake pedal).

The engine will sound different when the clutch is in or out. When the clutch pedal is pushed in, the transmission is not spinning at all because there is no mechanical link to the engine. With the clutch out (and the trans is in neutral) there are still some components within the transmission (and clutch) that are spinning, even though the car is not moving. This does create a slight drag on the engine, so I think that this is the difference you are hearing. Again, as everyone has been saying, this is NORMAL.

^ I appreciate the answer!

Like I said, I didn't think anything was wrong with the car, but just kind of wondered why it was making different sounds with the clutch in different positions. My previous car was a manual with cruise control and I didnt remember it being that distinct.

Just enjoy the new car

Yeah that's kindda normal thing. I also realized that the vehicle overheats on the track after a few hours of driving and cost thousands for the repair. anyway, there are lots of stores that offer engine mechanical parts for 370z and you can easily access them.

Nothing to worry on that. It's normal actually. Good to know you ask here in forum before you consult someone and have them check it because it will cost you money.

totally normal. welcome to the world of affordable sports cars :ugh2:

I hear like a bubbleing sound when Im stoped with the clutch down. It doesnt do it when I turn on the car and leave the clutch down. You got to drivet a bit and then stop and leave the clutch engaged. Is this normal???

Thechidz 02-01-2012 09:58 AM

is number 2 really normal? I've been told that this COULD be an early symptom...?

WhiskeyHotel 02-01-2012 10:13 AM

I can say that I do not get any "run-on" after I hit the switch - boom, it's dead. However, that really doesn't mean you necessarily have an issue.

The MT linkage is noisey (to me). I can get a bit of clutch chatter at times and there are different sounds at idle clutch in/out.

Welcome and enjoy.
