Thank you for sharing. It's good to hear that the car is so reliable considering the mileage.

Just wondering if the oil consumption increased at higher mileage or it is about the same through out the 200k miles?

How about the transmission? Did the shifting get worse?

This will happen which is normal due to the tolerances between the piston rings and cylinder walls not being as tight due to normal wear.

nis350 01-11-2015 10:03 PM

that is true. I suppose I was interested in oil consumption in the relative term, say at 40k and 200k miles.

while it is normal for our Z motors to use a bit of oil even at low mileage, i have heard some honda engines do not burn any oil even at 100k miles.

Why are you comparing "some honda engines" to the 370Z's VQ engine?

BTW, "some" Chevy engines do not burn any oil even at 100k miles. And "some" Ford engines engines do not burn any oil even at 100k miles. And "some" Toyota engines... 'Ya know? :)

nis350 01-12-2015 09:38 PM

I was not comparing the z motor to anything, just stating the fact about other engines.

BTW: I was also NOT saying which motor is better.

Well managed to crack a rear sport wheel, same one I had fixed a while back after hitting a big chunk on steel on the hwy...lucky for me I have a spare rear sport wheel.

Yeah, seems good, doesn't pull or vibrate at all, I think it was just cause the wheel had been fixed in the same spot a few years back, so it was weaker there. Once I put the new wheel on i'll get a better idea.

Rather than doing an OA, can you tear down the engine and take measurements for any wear?:icon14:

I thought I was driving a lot in a Z, 20k a year is nothing compared to 90 st lol I have less miles and I feel like I'm going through more stuff I've had two transmission put in for the 5th and 6th gear synchros this was done under warranty, had both front lower control arms bushings go bad, The big differential bushing was bad and they replaced the entire k member. Now I'm having problems with the parking brake making noise on the right rear and some noise when the car is on an even surface like going up my drive way (maybe sway bar?? anyone? lol). The fuel sending unit needs to get replaced soon really freaked me out the other day when I filled up and it said that I only had half a tank. took a day to fix itself and hasn't acted up since then. I've had the clutch pedal hit the floor and not come back had to have the car towed to the dealer and they only bled it and put gtr fluid every morning my pedal feels a bit soft until I start driving it and then it gets stiffer. The clutch is actually starting to slip (or the csc is getting stuck at times) because sometimes after i shift into second the rpms will jump but I wont go anywhere and I swear my foot is off the pedal and I go and feel the pedal and it feels like its stuck half way and feels soft like it lost pressure and it stinks so bad after that. I think thats it for now other the plastic nismo skid plate (under shroud, that went bad twice and finally bought the z speed one)

But seriously, that's a lot of crap to go wrong already.

Another possibilty on the clutch slipping. I took mine to Joe at Zspeed a few months ago to have a new lightweight flywheel and clutch installed. He asked me if the clutch had been slipping lately because my "floating" flywheel was completely frozen.
Didn't much matter since I was having it all replaced anyway. Did it at around 78,000 miles.
