almost ready to make the deal on a 15 nismo tech 6mt
ok guys, so I'm almost ready to make the deal on the 15 nismo tech white, 6mt, still trying to make a deal with the dealership, negotiating wise.
I'm new to manual, i been practicing tho, today i drove a honda civic 5 speed in queens / Brooklyn traffic and didn't stall once. first gear i got the hang of, i just need to control my rpms. i was watching this youtube video and he said the secret is to just put it in first gear, let go of the brake, and play around with the clutch to find that "sweet spot" where the car moves forward, give it a bit gas around 1k rpm and the car will engage. but other then that i had so much fun with stick and shifting gears and traffic didn't bother me. so lets see how things work out, will deff post pics up. any feed back on tips in first gear or anything will be helpful. |
The first time i drove stick it was the day before i had to make a long trip. Fron sacramento to washington state. I practiced the same day and kinda got the hang of it. Best advice is.. go easy on the clutch and dont let it go too fast.. just enough to get it rolling. After you get the hang of it youll get way better.

Also, if you're on a hill, engage the emergency brake to hold you in place so you don't roll back into someone until you start moving forward.
You also don't need to keep your foot on the brake at a stop light unless you're on a slight incline/decline so you don't roll into someone. |
Cool but that civic clutch won't be like z. Your definitely going to stall in the Z until you remove clutch helper spring.

wait so you are or you arent getting a MT nismo? wat?
not to discourage you, but basically wat you learned on the easy to drive civic will probably not apply all that much on the Z. the z is more for the advanced MT driver as it has a heavier clutch and directness, aggressive gearing, and A LOT more power than the standard 4banger civic. |

I learned to drive standard on the Z... probably not the smartest move but also a challenge worth taking! I could do 2 things very well when I started... rocket launch and stall. I can't even rocket launch like I did before... I just can't replicate it. Probably better for the clutch too. My hardest part was getting up the drive way and parking the car in fear of launching through my house! Don't worry you can do it...
Don't bother with playing around the clutch, just push it in, shift, and then release the clutch carefully. If you get a hiccup/bump you know you had a less than perfect shift. If you get a clunk it was terrible. If you hear a grind... well... yea.... try not to do it again? I still have occasionall shoddy shifting... and it's a lot more difficult, imho, when parts are cold. |
I learned to drive a manual in a Z. Of course, that was my dad's Datsun 280z :driving: 30 years ago.
