Quick Questions

1.) Do you have to buy the navigational package in order to get the XM radio antenna - it is possible to get it if you are only doing sports package, right?

2.) Can you remove the antenna if you do not want it anymore? Will it cause any damage if you remove it?

3.) Let's say you want to buy a white 370Z but you do not want matching antenna colors. Can you request the dealership to change the antenna color to your liking? Like black antenna on a white 370Z.

4.) I have heard that the automatics are generally better in drag racing. However, on the track, it might be a different story. Is it safe to assume that the paddle shifter will counter the manual (not in a superior way but as a substitute) on the track?

Thank you 370Z gurus.

meh i think the last question will turn into a debate between MT and AT. MT is just more fun but that doesnt answer your question. i dont know the answers to your Qs though :(
hit up the dealership and get some answers!

1). I believe the touring package upgrades your stereo to Bose/XM sat. not the navigation. Navigation allows u to operate stereo thru your screen and adds storage and a few extra features for music.
2). I'm not sure
3) I'm sure the dealer can do anything u want but u will pay out the a$$ for it.
You are better off going to car toys or a custom shop.
4) the paddle shifts will work well on a track. But not as precise as the manual.
Sport package will be your best attribute on the track. If u want to track often it is probably recommended to perform minor upgrades (pads, brake lines, drop n sway.) If u r wanting to do more just get the base and do your own suspension.

1) When I was shopping for my 370Z, I test drove only the touring models, with and without navi. I know the Bose stereo without the navigation had XM. This is the stereo with the orange LED display that is integrated into the dash, not the single DIN base stereo. I don't think the base stereo has XM capability. However, if I were buying a 370Z with just the base stereo, I'd probably go with an aftermarket Kenwood unit with Garmin Navi, like AK370Z and others have done.

2) Not sure if the XM antenna is attached to the roof by screws or adhesive mount only. I'm guessing there would at least be one hole for the wire, and you'd likely need to repaint to cover up the hole.

3) Depends on how it is attached and if they have spare ones laying around. I'm not sure if the XM is a factory or dealer installed option.

4) Not sure. I have always preferred manual transmissions over automatics. I also think the synchorev match (if you get the sports package) holds an advantage over a regular manual, unless you are an expert at heel-toeing and rev matching on your own.

Reason why I asked is because is in most if not all pictures that I have seen of the 370Z, cars that have the screen on the dashboard have the antennas, but, I came across ddm's pictures not too long ago and was puzzled even further!

As you can see, he doesn't have that screen on the dashboard.. I would assume he got the sports package of the 370Z only and not a tour nor navi?

So I guess I somewhat answered my question with this post? That is, if you are getting the sports package (no tour or navi), and if you want the XM antenna, then you will be able to get it. Correct or no? :(

Unless I'm blind and not seeing the clear picture here, Mike from DDM said this:
"Thanks! The antenna comes on all 370Zs with satellite radio.

Don't all cars come with the satellite radio? So if you are going for the sports package only and you also want xm radio, then by godly, you will get the antenna, right?

Also, do you think if I call the dealership as opposed to going to one physically, the person taking the call will be able to answer my antenna color question? The reason why I want it black is appearance reasons. Most antennas are black regardless of the color - the 370Z's body color always matches the antenna color which is cool but not my taste. :P

Looks like he has the touring package (he has the bluetooth cell phone option and aluminum trimmed pedals which, IIRC, only come with the touring package) but obviously no nav. And he has the sport package (although in the last photo he's swapped out the Ray's rims).

I don't have Nav...AND i have the XM antenna...the touring pack alone gives you the Bose/XM radio...so you can get it without nav.

AK370Z 10-05-2009 04:05 AM

Ok I will break down the 370z stereo system

Base 370z = NO XM antenna because NO satellite radio offered.

Touring 370Z (NO nav) = comes with exterior satellite antenna.

Touring 370z (with nav) = comes with exterior satellite antenna.

Sports package is a performance package. It has NOTHING to do with outside exterior antenna.

DDM motorsports car is touring model (no nav). when he said , "Thanks! The antenna comes on all 370Zs with satellite radio", he is correct. Only touring model gets the satellite radio.

Mine is an Touring with no Nav,but also no exterior satellite antenna.

i got the base since i wanted cloth seats and worked my way
backwards to put some of the touring stuff i wanted on...
auto-dim mirror, nice stereo, and factory pedals.

imho if you're wanting a good stereo system get the base and
add the stereo later. you'll be much happier, i thinks.

about the AT/MT thing... that's up to you. i like to motor my
cars so all of my cars are MT. AT is convenient though.

Please stop - do not get this thread locked... Leave it as it is... unless you are a hardcore track nut who craves perfection you wont "need" the M6. With that said - I would never sacrifice my clutch as i feel it enhances my driving experience.

^ enhances = code word for making it slower
