First post and what a bummer!

We had our Chicane yellow 370Z for 600 miles when a guy pulled out of a parallel parking space and clobbered the passenger side rear wheel well and bumper. He said he didn't see us! I thought better of asking him how long he had been legally blind.

I took the car to my dealer's body shop for the $1500 fix. Besides the body work, they had to repaint the passenger door, the passenger rear quarter and the entire bumper.

The body shop finished the car yesterday but I couldn't get there before closing so they sent it to their dealership for my pickup today.

My wife and I took one look at the car and almost fainted. We now have a 2 tone Chicane Yellow Z! The paint did not match by a long shot! Note the repainted areas in the attached photos and see if you can see the difference in the paint.

I refused to take the car but the body shop is closed till Monday AM.

Any suggestions for a civilized discussion with the body shop???

They could have at least re-painted the splash guard...

I'm staying away from you- apparently you make people go blind....

StLRedrider 10-03-2009 06:30 PM

sorry to hear the bad news, you would think they could see bright asss yellow

nogoodname 10-03-2009 06:34 PM

side skirt and splash guard looks a bit of a different shade.... maybe it's just the pic

was the driver blinded by the bright yellow'ness of ur Z........lol

alvinator 10-03-2009 06:38 PM

The middle picture shows the paint difference, at least to me. Follow a line from the top of the passenger windows along the rear hatch line(which wasn't repainted) to the tail light and you will see the difference in the colors.

StLRedrider 10-03-2009 06:41 PM

i see what yout talking about, sunlight plays a big role i think

dcrew1x 10-03-2009 06:42 PM

Sorry to hear about that.

Hope all goes well with the body shop. I'd tear them a new ..:shakes head:

Good luck.

Stop payment immediately!

If you have to: Contact a lawyer!

That is upsetting, that is piss poor work!

av370 10-03-2009 07:08 PM

is this a dealership body shop?

Yes, this dealer has many franchises including Nissan and this is his body shop.

StLRedrider 10-03-2009 07:17 PM

ask them if they just learned how to paint, because they need more experience, and not on the Z

mspeasl 10-03-2009 07:24 PM

Blending................

It looks like the body shop was trying to BLEND the new paint into the old paint. It also appears that the painter did a poor job using the technique of BLENDING. This is a common practice of body shops when repairing body damage since insurance companies will not pay for a complete (panel - door - fender - etc.) paint job. The bad part about this kind of a repair is, if you polish and wax your car repeatedly like what we do. The repaired area tends to begin to stand out the more we polish and wax.

This is Post-damage shots. Look at the tint of yellow on the car.

fairladyZ34 10-04-2009 12:50 AM

should have resprayed the whole car. atleast that way the paint is all the same

Trips 10-04-2009 01:01 AM

Some colors are hard to match and Chicane Yellow is one of them. have them fix it till your satisfied and demand the warranty on the job and the paint that way your covered down the road. Good luck!

CBRich 10-04-2009 07:27 AM

Definitely not matching. Absolutely refuse to pay anything and contact your insurance company.

bsramzy 10-04-2009 11:42 AM

i had the same issue with my PW z. I thought that it was a different shade between the side skirts and the rest of the car but sunlight is the main factor

pictures are really difficult to judge color from

Cjanik 10-04-2009 12:11 PM

dude thats terrible. I can see the new paint job like a sore thumb. Better ask the idiots if they looked up 09 350z yellow instead of 09 370z yellow.

how can they be so blind as to try to release the car in that condition? wouldnt someone say "hey dude, somethings wrong, tell the customer its gunna be another week".

but no, instead, "eh, mabye the dude wont notice, try to get it out of here". No way the painter didnt see the difference.

They will never agree to that. Plus, lets keep their lack of experience to just one section of the car. ;)

Paint shades will differ a very little to some degree on the different materials but this shop is not even close. I hope it all works out for you. Keep us posted.

Blown32 10-04-2009 02:36 PM

Beings that you and the wife are the only ones to see it in person I believe you when you say the colors are off as far as a match.
I don't see how anyone can tell by the pictures posted though!
I'am quite sure if it is a reputable body shop if you are not satisfied they will reshoot the panels to your likeing. After all when there is an accident an insurance adjuster comes out to make up an estimate sheet and if the color doesn't match they will make it right.
Just a shame you happened to see the car on the weekend and they are closed. If it were a work day I'am sure they will make a reasonable attempt to match the paint to your satisfaction once you talk to them.Good luck and let us know how you made out.

akburst510 10-04-2009 03:51 PM

I honestly can't tell the difference, but if you can in person...don't settle.

Mike@Blackline 10-04-2009 08:01 PM

i would pursue his insurance company for extra money due to a 'loss of value' for the car, considering its going to be worth at least $1500 less when you resell it (thats what KBB says). thats just me

jmtt90 10-04-2009 08:24 PM

Man thats just sickening. My car got hit a week ago and i will be going through the same process. Whats the deal with people not seeing our cars?!

SpawnAeroJohn 10-04-2009 09:24 PM

I like the new color better. But you can really see where the door is blended... I'd just take it back there and say its unacceptable. There are certain things you can look past but two different color panels is a whole diff story.

That’s what you want to tell them. Other then that most people would be like wow amazing job! But car enthusiasts are different.

Me being a painter I know how hard it is to match the color perfectly. Its not possible. No matter what it will always be different. Noticeable, sometimes you would never notice it and most people usually don’t, but its there. It needed to be lighter and blended better.

Yellow is one of the hardest colors to match and use to cover an existing color. That’s why I'd never in my life buy a yellow car.

alvinator 10-05-2009 09:22 AM

I met with the body shop this AM and they are redoing the paint; they said it looked alright inside but admit that the match is terrible when viewed in the sun.

Hopefully, they will get it right the second time around.

I appreciate all the helpful replies from the members.

semtex 10-05-2009 09:29 AM

I can really see the difference in the second picture. This just makes me sick.

awesomez 10-05-2009 09:42 AM

This really is a terrible paint job. I was hit with my 350Z lemans sunset (orange) and the paint was matched perfectly the first time. Next time don't use these guys. This time refuse to accept until it's at least close because right now it isn't.

Thats what I said in my post.It is a shame the shop was closed when you saw the car because it caused you to be upset all weekend.Any reputable shop will make attempts to satisfy the customer.
Hopefully the second time around it will match.

platyperz 10-05-2009 12:31 PM

That's great that they will attempt to fix, pls post after pics to compare.

alvinator 10-17-2009 05:34 AM

The body shop did a great job on the paint the second time around and both my wife and I are completely satisfied with the fix.

Thanks for everyone's help!!!

Well glad to hear that they stood by there work and repainted to your satisfaction.
Seriously I never had a doubt they would repaint as long as a reputable shop.
Lets hope you don't have to use them again.

jookiyaya 10-17-2009 01:23 PM
