remembering the time when i dreamed of owning a Z
 

just wanted to say that 370Z was my dream car for a very long time before i became an actual owner.
It's now been more than a year owning a Z, and although that same strong desire and lust for this car is somewhat faded(tiny bit, i still love my car), i want to just remember the times when i wanted this car to death, and realize how much thankful I am to have achieved one of my most significant dream. That i should not take this car for granted whenever i see a 911 drive by.

Agreed completely. This car is a classic 1980s/1990s child dream. And yes, these forums are awesome.

Hell yha. I debated for 3 yrs getting my Z. from the day i laid eyes on it at the dealership. It wasnt for another 3 yrs till i finnally pulled the trigger when my wife called me at work telling me they had a Black Z for sale in a man tranny. So we traded my altima coupe in the next day.

My dad had a bronze Datsun 280ZX. I have very fond memories of those times.



I think he was happier than I was when I called him up and told him I got my Z.

LOL, for me it was a 1970's teenager's dream! ;)

A co-worker of mine in the early 1970's had a 1970 240Z that he bought new. I used to see it in the parking lot all the time and it was just so cool that I decided that one day I would own a Z.

Then when he graduated from college, a very good friend of mine bought a brand new 1978 280Z for himself as a graduation present. I loved that car, he and I had a lot of fun in it, and it just reinforced my desire to own a Z one day.

And finally, 5 1/2 years ago, the timing was right and I bought my 370Z. Even after over 5 and a half years of owning it, it still brings a smile to my face when I see it parked in my driveway or at work, and it especially makes me smile when I drive it. Couldn't be happier with it! :D

Ever since I started getting into the car scene at a very young age, I always said that I will own a sports car. Now at 25, I finally have a sports car. This is much more than a sports car though, it's a piece of Nissan history.

Fun story:

I was with my girl in the Z (about a month or so after buying it) getting ready to pull out of a parking spot in Safeway when I noticed this guy noticing me. He sort of gawked at me for a bit and then came over and said "When I was probably about your age I had an old 70's 280Z and I just felt on top of the world! You're car looks great, have fun!"

i like peeling off the car cover in the spring after hibernation. it's like i get a brand new car every year. :excited:

maybe dats why ive not gotten sick of my G either after owning her for 10yrs now...

To the OP

Don't know your age but assuming a lot younger than me.
If not I speak to the younger crowd.
In 10 years that deep lust you have will fade. Practicality will be a driving factor in the decisions you make in the future. Maybe marriage, or kids or who knows, but there will be a time when you will come to a crossroads with your baby. Your Z will be on the decision table. Should I keep her or sell her.

In 20 years, don't be the one that says, "I wish I would have kept that old car."
Or as Zerocool would probably say. "I wish I would have kept that Piece of Nissan History."

I really love it when my high school buddies that i haven't seen in a while come over and say, "holy sh#t i so remember that car. remember when...and the cops..."

If you are a car guy, they become a part of your history.

i can relate with op... i'm 45 and have wanted a z car for 25 years... then life happened and responsibilities arose... my son is now grown and my loving fiancé bought me my z for my 45th birthday last year... it honestly feels like getting into it for the 1st time every single time i open the door... besides my son and the love of my fiancé it's the BEST gift i've ever received :D

I totally agree. Being 45 myself, I have wanted a sports car for a long time. Getting married young (married for 24yrs now) and having kids right away that didn’t happen. Now that both our son and daughter are in college my wife and I decide it was time for the sports car. We decided on the Z because it was the best all-around performer for us. I like the Camaro SS but I don’t like the price once you add all the amenities we wanted (leather- heated seats, Nav, appearance package, etc). Now I have to fight my wife to drive it. She has taken it over and loves the car.

I'm too in my 40s and glad I'm done with midlife crisis... :tup: :ugh:

I have a lot of fond memories of the Z . I bought a 1971 240 when they first came out and then in 1983 I bought a 280zx drove it for 10 years . Unfortunately it got cancer real bad and I had over a 100,000 on it but it still looked good and I loved driving it, but I sold it. I followed the Z models through the years and really loved the 370Z , so last year I retired from riding H.D 's and I filled the void with a 2014 370 Z .and I am really enjoying it. I did all this while being married and raising 2 wonderful sons. I never let anything get in my way. Been married for 53 years and I am 77 and having fun.

My gf has maintained throughout me owning my Z that there is no way I'm ever allowed to sell it. As if I ever would :rolleyes: The only other person who's ever going to own this thing is maybe one of my kids, who are unborn. At least another 20 years of rocking my 370 :happydance:

maybe for you and some of you, but that never occurred to me. i mean, if you cant wing a Z and a family, then you shouldnt be buying this car in the first place imho... while this is an economy sports car, it is not for the poor.

the previous owner of my car had a midlife crisis... he had a few kids and apparently realized a Z was not in his budget because he needed 2 sedans.

i'm glad i was able to capitalize on his midlife though because now i'm a happy Z owner :rofl2:

which reminds me, while i was at nissan gallery at hq, the girl there asked me how i carry my kids around while i only have a Z. :D she even questioned if the Z in the US has rear seats. :rofl2:

i told her i have a skyline coupe (g35c) and she was like :tup:
then i told her i also have 2 hatches. :D

if i had more space i'd put an abarth in the garage along with that new miata probably...

the new miata has the jaguar looks in the rear... we'll see what happens. hopefully it'll give the toyobaru twins a good run

i've always been a very conservative guy when it comes to spending (i paid for my own college and expense back then) so extra cash spent on the fun was definitely not a good option for me.

Now going forward, at the age of 26, after paying off all the loan, buying a house, finding a good job, i finally decided to spend the extra cash for the fun. I did a lot of research before making the decision for the Z and boy i can't emphasize this enough, but I am very pleased with the decision. It is a very fun car and even tho i do drive quite a bit for work, i still enjoy every minute of it. :eekdance::driving:

edit ~btw you owning the Z at 26 is not late by any means. it really was designed as an mid-end-ish level sports car... but i guess with what's on the market you could consider this entry level sports car now...

I wanted my Z since high school, when the 350Z's were out. Then when the 370Z debuted, it improved on everything I liked about the 350. There was no way I could settle for a 350 so 5 years later, countless hours spent drooling at thumbnail pics and opinionated posts on this forum, and the frugality of an oyster, I'm in z-club. For me, the car is and will remain a classic. The lines, the stance, the uniqueness synergize to elicit emotion like a car 2 or 3 times the price point. I go look at my car at least once a day while I'm at work to confirm it is as I left it, and to generally lift my mood. Not too many cars out there can evoke this quality of life.

i remember i used to look at photos of the 370Z nights after nights. my heart ached everyday just dreaming to own this car. i think this iteration of Z will age very well, unlike how people thought it wouldn't when it first came out. I don't think any other japanese cars capture the original DNA and heritage this well as the Z.

I remember the first time I saw the 300z, I had to go touch it. I said to myself that one day I will own a Z. I have a 09 and still people give the thumbs up when they see this car. The other day a guy ran up to me and asked if this was the new Z, I told him it was a 09 and he couldnt believe it, I thought, maybe, he just got out of jail.

Ha, I get that all the time. Mine is an 09 and people think it's brand spanking new.


Well it is a baby, got her with 22k miles on it. She's still a youngster :D

I got mine with 23K on it and yes, Sybil is still a baby
