Nope not necessarily but it will bring out the best for your mods.

Had my Z for 20ish thousand miles still runs as fast from 0-60 as fast as a chicken can copulate! Lol

Just hard reset your ECU. The ECUs are pretty adaptive and help with mild mods.

After i installed HFC, CBE, & CAI my Z was running 20% too lean. Plus i gained approx 50whp & 40wtq with the UpRev pro tune.
I would always recommend a professional tune after changing exhaust and intake. You've just changed more air in, and air out faster. You'll need more gas period!

You guys confirmed what I thought. Hard reset, I am assuming is battery disconnect? Any suggestions on where to take for UpRev pro tune? I am halfway between ATL and Charlotte. Also, how frequent do you need to maintain the tune? Every year have it checked out? Every 10k miles? I've never read any dialogue on what you need to do after the tune. This is a DD. Non track car.

I've kinda got the same mods and I'm looking forward to getting it tuned. It's kinda boggy at low RPMs. Loss of low RPM torque anyway.

So.. Z1 is the place to get an UpRev and get it tuned? Where do most go here in the South East? This about a 600 dollar deal right? 300 for the UpRev and 300 for the dyno?

With a different intake, it's possible you will be running a bit lean, as any changes to the intake tract may affect how the MAF's measure load. For the exhaust, it's not an issue.

If you aren't getting any CEL's, fueling is probably fine, if not optimal.

I was not getting any CEL after installing my set up. However, once i had it professionally tuned.... It showed my engine was starving approx 20% gas needed.

Lean fuel can result in many issues!

Rule of thumb when modifying engines...... Once you're done the installs..... Get it tuned!!
If you're planning on many add ons....tune once your build is complete.
Even a simple CBE needs tuning. If u also add CAI u Definitely need a tune:tup:

To sum up some of the stuff in other threads: If you change the intake on a DD, you probably don't need a tune. If you change the exhaust on a DD, you probably don't need a tune. If you change the intake and the exhaust, you probably need a tune. The ECM will adjust for minor changes but can only do so much.

Personally, it doesn't make much sense to me to make engine/transmission mods without getting a tune. The tune from the factory is pretty good but there is room for improvement, even with no mods.

How lean at WOT? If you were hovering around 13.0 you were fine. Much leaner it's more iffy. In low load, closed loop, you were probably just running high-ish fuel trims.

Don't get me wrong -- I think a tune is a good idea if you completely replace the OEM intake box because any changing of intake diameter or MAF placement can drastically alter things, but I don't know if anyone is running so lean as to knock, for example...

Installed Injen Cold Air Intake and Indiva cat back along with a tune from R/T Tuning. Making 313whp.
Cars feels much stronger and runs great.
These guys did all my work to my TT G35 and will do all my Z work.
They said the same thing that will most likely run lean with the Injen intake.

I installed my exhaust and CAI's and never did a thing. I drove it for about two weeks daily and then just started driving it once in a while when its nice out. Should I now pull the positive cable and have it "re-learn" itself ?

Kingbaby 10-20-2014 02:38 PM

Yes.....

paratrooper 10-20-2014 06:15 PM

I got the flashing light.. Then completed the steps. How do you know if it actually reset though (how do you know the last couple steps went correctly)
