CSC and Steering Lock Failures....Anything Else I Need to be Concerned With?
 

Looking at buying a used 370Z, and I see these two main issues, are there any others I should be aware of? I'm leaning toward the 370 over a BMW Z4M Roadster and a C5 Z06 primarily for reliability and ease of ownership purposes. I hope I'm on the right track.

Also, if I do have a clutch pressure failure what does it cost to get it fixed?

The steering lock should've been recalled as far as I'm aware. The CSC is the only problem brought up as far as I've seen. If you are buying a 370z over 30k mileage I would do the common courtesies for maintenance. Like regular maintenance and the inspection of your throttle body plates (with higher mileage cars), maybe clean them out. Hump the back of your car for security. The necessities

Labor should be around $1K at a decent shop. Expect to pay 50% more at a dealer. If you have the unpleasant experience of having your CSC fail, be sure to upgrade - Zspeed and Specialty Z have heavy duty CSCs and Z1 has an elimination kit that uses an external slave cylinder. I paid ~$350 for the Z1CSCEK and spent two days in my garage with a buddy replacing mine.

Steering lock issue is fixed by pulling a fuse. That's what I did.
Just have to do pull the fuse before it breaks.

My car just ticked 10K on the odometer and I just had the CSC & CMC replaced under warranty. If you get a car with a warranty, your CSC & CMC will be covered no questions asked under the 3yr bumper to bumper warranty. Some folks have had a hard time convincing Nissan to cover the hydraulic system under the 5yr powertrain warranty. I was lucky enough to have my local dealership install the ZSpeed HD CSC at the time during my recent work. Of course I had to supply the part but I was glad to do that. Some owners have had luck with that, but I think most have not. I would agree, the biggest issue on later model Zs is the CSC. Once you get that resolved they are pretty bullet proof.
