Where do the extra horses come from?

Question about the hp of a 370Z.

The stock Z has 332hp. The NISMO version adds 18 more for 350hp.

Where is the extra hp coming from? Is the added 18 because the VQ37VHR was tweaked for better performance, the upgraded NISMO exhaust, or a combination of both?

combination of the Nismo cbe and a different ecu tune

has anyone dyno'd stock vs stock+nismo cbe for an expensive comparison?

I heard from another topic the Nismo ecu was slight retarded timing compared to the 370z as far as graphs

I'm pretty sure someone did this already and posted the results on the forum. If I recall correctly the difference in the tunes was trivial, and as suspected the HP gains were simply due to the larger 60mm CBE.

does the extra hp sufficiently compensate for the extra weight?

Google says it's from a 'tuned H exhaust system, a muffler and new recalibrated tuning chip'.

I would be curious what's the break down of hp gained by each.

Not that it matters really but I wish the Nismo exhaust was a little less.... well, quiet.

As far as I remember from the tuning section it's all really from the exhaust. The tuning was to reduce lean points, among other minor things, from the less restrictive exhaust rather than any notable increase in power. Remember it adds 18 BHP which is about 14 WHP which is about right for the larger tubing and better H design.
