Albuquerque , NM ?

Anyone from Albuquerque ? I am planning a road trip to the area, just to drive the countryside. I will be in Albuquerque for several days. What parts of town (for motels) are considered the safer areas? Where to stay away from? Best driving roads?
Thanks,
Chuck

From ABQ

TexasChuck:

Unfortunately, I don't think there are that many good drives around ABQ. Mostly just city-type driving, or getting on I-40 or I25 and letting the Z rip. I go up to Santa Fe which is about an hour north to get off the main roads and have some fun. I drive up to the Ski lodge or head out on Bishop Lodges road. Some good places to stay are at the Marriott north of town but if you want to be downtown the Doubletree by Hilton is good. I work with them a lot. I live in the northeast section of the city and that tends to be very nice. There is a Hampton on I-25 north that is close to this area. Anything near the university will be pretty good. Good luck and have fun. trackster22.

The Drive

Hey, thanks. I am definitely planning on the drives being out side the city. There is a lot of good info on the motorcycle roads web sites. Just using Albuquerque as a base. Sounds like the northeast side is good.

Chuck,

A great ride is 550 heading northwest out of ABQ to 14 which takes you through the Jemez Pueblo and Jemez Springs. Take 4 to Los Alamos and 502 to Pojoaque. 285 into Santa Fe. Take 14 out of Santa Fe to Madrid. Route 66 back into ABQ. It's about 200 mile total trip. Great places to stop in the Jemez, Los Alamos, Santa Fe and Madrid.
I agree with trackster22 above for hotels. Paseo del Norte and I-25 also has the Marriott Pyramid, Courtyard by Marriott, Hampton. Sandia casino has a hotel but quite $$$$ it has garage parking though. I'm not sure when you are planning on coming out here but Oct 4-12 is our balloon fiesta so hotels fill up pretty fast.
