fix for weak remote buttons

I am sick of activating the panic or unknowing lower all the windows because the buttons are easily pressed when I bend down or lower myself. Anyway to fix it or should I just buy a new one?

Thanks

I have the same issue when sit on the floor to install paint protection on rockers. Everytime with out fail I'll set the alarm off. So far no fix and I won't keep all my keys in my front pocket either lol .

Fuzzzy 08-23-2014 05:16 PM

I remember seeing pictures of leather and/or plastic cases for the fob on here somewhere, so you may try searching for that to see if that makes the buttons less prone to accidental presses.

I've had the same issue with the fob for my wife's Altima, but, so far, have not had a problem with my Z's fob. If I do, I expect I'll get one of the cases to see if that helps.

I bought this it sorta helps like 20% of the time but def not a fix

I have to remember to remove the FOB from my pocket when working on the car, because at some point I will set the alarm off if I don't. I wouldn't call it weak buttons. It happened on my '09 and it happened on my Focus, that had a similar iKey. It's just bound to happen if the key is in your pocket and you lean, bend, or twist just right.

I wish it were that easy. I dressed like a "skater" growing up, so even today, regular sized jeans just don't feel comfortable. I would never wear skinny jeans. My mechanic wear usually consists of a pair of baggy gym shorts and I can set the panic off in those.

cooltoy 08-23-2014 11:43 PM

I got this. It's great and only $10. Real leather.

PS. I replaced the fugly clip.

Wow... I have always thought that site was for scammers. Obviously, you got what you ordered, but was it a positive experience?

cooltoy 08-24-2014 02:50 PM

It was good. Same as E-bay. No complaints.

Minhtin 08-24-2014 04:38 PM

Don't use your pockets! That's a cool leather case.

MagmaRed370z 08-25-2014 08:14 PM

If set mine once in a while. My wife is tired of it lol

Try setting it off accidentally during your daughter's wedding reception in your front yard, and see how tired your wife gets of it. Especially if you've already served yourself a few glasses of champagne and, as a result, don't immediately snap to what the hell is making that awful racket :wtf2:

I've been searching for the one cooltoy has, but I'm having trouble locating one exactly like it online. I just don't like any of the ones that I am finding.

Cossie:

Is it possible to build up a rim around the buttons so they do not depress inadvertently? I don't know what material to suggest like caulk, or what polymer but it seems a path for you.

Mine arrived today--I also got one of the brown cases for my spare fob since I couldn't decide which I like better. I think I prefer the black though.

You are right about the clip. Not only is it fugly, but it makes it entirely too bulky for a pants pocket. The clips will be coming off as soon as I figure out how aggressive I want to be in removing them.

Thanks again for posting the pics and the link!

I left the oval ring on.

I dremmeled the little nipple off. Once that was gone, the shaft just slides out leaving a hole in the oval ring. Then I put a small keychain ring through the hole and attached my post office box key to that.

Great minds ...

I didn't think I had a hacksaw at the house, but I found one and cut that little shaft with it, also leaving the oval ring. I put a small keychain ring through the oval ring rather than the small hole as it seemed less bulky that way.

Datsun240Z71 09-11-2014 02:59 PM

Got mine today. Really quite nice for $10! Not sure if I'll alter mine or not.

THANKS again for the link to order!

Haboob 09-11-2014 03:16 PM

I have only had this happen twice with the keys in my front pocket. It would feel super awkward having them anywhere else (like the back pocket). I don't really have an issue unless there's more in my pocket or they're positioned wrong and my money clip hits it or something.
