paint job

I have a pearl white nismo and I have to get it repainted... Was curious if anyone may know what kind of price I'm about to be paying...?

Its really going to depend on the shop you go to and if there is any body work that would need to be done as well. Most good shops wont paint over damage (even small dents) so they will charge you for any small repairs as well.

Fortunately, there wasn't any body damage.. just a 2" bare metal scratch and a long minor scratch across the door to the headlight

7-10k probably for a real paint job.

Unfortunately, this sounds about right after prep work and labor.

Your best bet is to have that one particular panel repainted/blended and cross your fingers that it matches the rest of the car. And if it doesn't, then you huff and puff for a week or two then move on with life.

Unless you are made of money, you will IMMEDIATELY regret repainting the whole car. The first piece of dust to fall on it will make you irate. Not to mention that because there are other drivers out there, it WILL get scratched again at some point.

That's a lot more than I was thinking!

kenchan 08-20-2014 08:20 PM

maybe wrap it?

Masterbeatty 08-20-2014 08:21 PM

Wrap it and it will be cheaper. Plus if you sell it it, it will be the next persons problem not yours.

quality factory equivalent paint is more like 4-6k. 7-10 is for show quality. I paid 8 for my C6 when I did a widebody conversion and it got 3 layers of clear, wetsand and 3 more layers of clear and wetsand. People quoting hire aren't in the south. Labor is much cheaper here.

So... How much would I be looking at to have a bumper paint matched to my car?

kenchan 08-20-2014 08:42 PM

$600 or show car quality and $350 for factory? :icon17:

nzmo 08-20-2014 09:12 PM

Yeah I was hoping, around 3k ...
I thought about wrapping it, I just don't know anyone that has done it to see how it looks.

FairladyZ10PG 08-20-2014 10:49 PM

I asked my shop for a quote for a whole car paint, and was quoted $8-10K for a legit job. So I said.. I think you can guess lol

Having had to have door and fender paint work done on a previous car, separately, one was about $800 and one was about $1200, labor included. Car was black though. I would just make sure shop gets paint from Nissan, or bring it yourself, ensuring proper code for "best" potential match.

DEpointfive0 08-21-2014 05:46 AM

I feel most everyone quoting up to 10k is quoting for a color change.
If you're repainting the same color it will be closer to what Mike said.

OP, find a shop that doesn't need to blend. I cringe at that word. If they're actually paint matching, they should know how to paint your car, and there's no need to "blend" the paint
