Why do some Zs make this sound between pressing Start button and cranking?

Before buying my '12 I watched a few vids of startups and noticed there was this sound right before the starter cranking. Sounds almost like an electric motor of some kind. But my car doesn't do it, it just cranks right up. Some videos are like my car, others have this sound. What is it? Here's an example.

Before mine starts. I hear my fuel pumps run.

I don't hear anything out of the ordinary in your video. I bet you're hearing the fuel pump, like Rusty mentions, especially if it's a fairly high pitched whirring sound.

I def know what a fuel pump sounds like. My doesnt do it but some if these vids make this abrupt sound inside. You don't hear it immediately after the push of the button in the vid? Between button and start.

This. Sometimes the steering wheel will have slight movement.

Yeah no steering lock on my '12.

Hopefully the YouTube guy pulled the fuse so his steering wheel lock won't freeze up... :)
