When is the best time to get the first oil change?
Hello there,
My 2014 z is passing 3000miles right now amd I need some advise if I have to wait until 5000 miles. Thank you:) |
Wait until 7,500 miles. (Do you take a shower 3 times a day too?)
|
I did mine at 2450 miles. Check your oil level weekly.

it all depends on the person... some people will tell you that you already waited too long others will tell you that you are supposed to change it now and others will say you can wait keep going and change it at 5000.
|
I follow service schedule 1 which is every 3750 miles.

This is what I have heard as well. There will be lots of contaminants in your oil because the engine was new. It is best to get those out of the engine ASAP and replace it with fresh oil. After the first change, it is safe to follow the interval in the manual. I won't make any recommendations on an increased interval because as stated before, everyone has a different opinion. |
It really depends on you.
I change mine ever 3,000 miles. Probably because I drive'em like I stold'em |

Yea I remember that dealer told me the same thing |
As a single voice amongst many, I recommend you go ahead and do an oil change next opportunity. Then proceed with your OCI of choice. I use 5K miles as my OCI for my DD.

how many oil threads to we need?

I'd change it now like the others stated.
Now, if you daily your Z, and you do a lot of stop and go traffic, I saw a lot of owners will do it around the 3K OCI (Oil Change Interval). If you daily it with more freeways or longer drives with less stop and go would be the 5K OCI. If you do weekends only or barely drive it, people here do the 7K OCI. Just note that hotter or colder climates of your location can influence the intervals. |
Just had mine changed for first time at 1908 miles following break in...

Just as long as you change it is what matters. 3,000 is as far as I would go on a first oil change. .02cts
|
Some rumours even state that the original engine oil is designed for break in and is meant to be in car for xxxx amount of miles.
|
The owners manual said to do the first oil change (schedule 1) at 3750 so that's what I did.

I hope that is correct as that is when I am planning to change mine for the first time. I might have considered changing it earlier if the dealership weren't my best option--and not the one I purchased from, so no free change for me  |
Pshh what does the owners manual know?! I prefer superstition!!
|
I usually change mine between 3500~4000 miles. That being said, I don't push my car in the high rpm range. If you do, you're obviously working the engine harder, hence frequent oil change. You can even get away with 5000 miles if you drive gently.
Bottom line, it all depends on how you drive but it seems like 3000 mile is the magic number for 370z |
Decide what your oil change interval (OCI) should be based on the type of driving you do (see the Owner's Manual). Your first change should be no different than your tenth change, just be sure to periodically check the oil level (which you should do anyway) to make sure that there's no abnormal oil consumption.
If the first oil change needed to be done sooner than a normal OCI Nissan would state so in the Owner's Manual (I bet Nissan knows more about this than any of us). |

Do you own stock in Jiffy Lube? ;) |
Changed mine out to redline oil at 2,000-2,500 I believe and manual says every 5k. So upon reaching 5k in 3k miles I will change it again just to keep it on schedule. The manual for the 2014 says every 5k including the first one but I had to get that junk oil out after I did my research.
