Poll: 2013/2014 Front Bumper Lip on PW... Leave it stock or black it out?

Hey guys!

I have a PW 2013 with the new front bumper - no fangs, vertical DRLs.

Any recommendations on leaving the bottom lip alone or blacking it out? Either matte black Plasti Dip or matte black vinyl wrap?

I already have a matte black wrapped rear lower diffuser area and a gloss black wrapped roof.

Thanks! :tiphat:

If you like the black, try plastidip to really test it out, then vinyl it if needed

I painted my lip last week. Took it to my friend's shop and he painted it trim black. It matches the black on the side mirrors. Painting the lip looks better in person than in pictures.

if you're talking about the air deflector below the front bumper, i would leave it black.

Hi Ken,

I mean the lower part of the bumper that's body colored, just below the intake slats.

I've never seen this before, I might go plastidip mine today and see how it turns out.

Masterbeatty 08-02-2014 05:38 PM

Since you don't have the fangs I would just wrap it.

Zbrah 08-02-2014 05:39 PM

I prefer the cleaner look.

I like the plasti dip look but I would just get a carbon fiber lip or something. Before I was into Z's i would notice people black out the front of their scions or in this case the Z and thought people were copying to evo x front grill look (not sure if mitsu was the company to come up with that blacked out style)

I like plasti-dip. The brighter the color, the better. It sings.

Definitely black it out! I plasti-dipped my first front bumper and loved the look. I am going to look into having vinyl applied to the replacement bumper.

Masterbeatty 08-02-2014 09:25 PM

I did my fangs in plastidip but if vinyl would work well with the curves I would of done that over dip any day. however the color shift plastidip looks great.

Well I almost plasti dipped mine last night. I got it all masked up and then just before applying the paint I decided against it. I knew I would not be happy with plastidip. I told myself I would await on a vendor to make a plastic cover for that part. Hopefully soon?

I hope they make one as well. Maybe we should reach out to Carbon Signal. They did do the 2013+ front lip.

I did reach out via his thread on this forum. He merely "liked" my post about asking if he was every going to make one LOL.

Just my :twocents:

With the 2013s and up I would not black out the center.
On the 09-12s the center is recessed so there is a defined center that's why it looks good on a 09-12.
Like the 09-14 NISMOs the bottom lip juts out all the way across so, IMO, blacking out the center will mess with the lines of the bumper.

Like I said just my :twocents:

After going back and forth on the idea, this is one of the main reasons I'd leave it alone. You'd have to "mask" or "tape" a line down on either side since there's no real recession or crease to define that area like the 09-12 design.

Also, I don't trust myself with a spray can, so I'd have someone Plasti Dip or vinyl wrap it. :(

Is it me or does the 370z from the pictures look like a character from CARS?

(it could be i just watched it with my nephews)

Has anyone bought this vinal front lower lip blackout piece from ebay? I like the look... wondering if anyone experienced any adverse issues after applying?

(I Google searched the subject, this dated thread is all I found)

Zbrah 12-29-2017 09:43 PM

Negative. For quality precut vinyls get it from B@t. He’s been supplying vinyls for the Z community for years.
