Not in the 370Z world. :icon17:

I'm telling you a hybrid system with 400+ horses, probably 430 ish, is it. GTR has 800 on the new model, it's not a sales killer. This will once again put the z in front if the 5.0. Hybrid is the immediate future. Why wouldn't they?

Because they'll have to charge above $45k+ for 400hp, and at that price point, the avg user would probably just buy a Porsche.

Why? With an existing petrol and what they've learned from the LEAF, I don't see it above $32K

Because the base model Z right now is $30. So you're thinking you're gonna get all of that new power for only $2k...?

I hope you're right because I'd get one again, but that's being extremely optimistic with Nissan's pricing history. :(

Why not? With the years they've had to develop electric systems with existing petrol engines, to stay competitive it has to stay around $32k base.

Nissan doesn't always price things as they should, that's what I'm trying to say... It's not about how much it Should cost, it's about how much they charge...

Yes... but, I don't think any manufacturers are quite ready to put out an affordable hybrid sports car.

The GT-R hybrid will come first -- and it will be at a premium price point.

HEK 07-27-2014 07:12 PM

if it does happen I will never buy it since we had a Jetta Hybrid with all the bells and whistles and after a year with only 7 k miles it depreciated it $10k....nomo hybrids for me

Thats why I don't pay attention to resale value. Fact of the matter is, any new car will start to depreciate as soon as you drive it home. I just buy what I like and sell it when I'm bored of it  lol

yeah but 10k in a year c'mon but no point in trying to make a point, hybrids are really not a good value considering the price, the damage they do to the environment (nobody thinks of the battery), lack of room and performance loss, anyway I'm happy with my Z as is...nice read thou :tiphat:

Yeahh... I knew someone that had a hybrid once and when the batteries when out, the total cost of parts and labor was more than what the car was worth lol.

That's why Tesla has to warranty their batteries for Unlimited Mileage, else they wouldn't sell any.

I feel hybrid technology is not optimized enough to put into an entry level sports car. hybrid system in a prius works well because its designed to be eco, and hybrid system in a p1 or 918 work well because it is highly advanced (and expensive) technology and purely for performance. if Nissan were to make a hybrid Z, their priority with the system will be to make the car more efficient, not necessarily to perform to maximum potential.

my2004Z 07-27-2014 08:44 PM

Nissan has what looks like is going to be the most successful electric car lineup in the world. It makes sense that they can put a cheap and reliable hybrid component into their sports cars. Torque-fill FTW!

Dirk McGurck 07-27-2014 08:47 PM

Not interested, not buying.

Eclipz 07-27-2014 08:49 PM

Z + Hybrid + mid-engine + twin turbo = mini mclaren p1

On what planet does a GTR come with 800hp from the factory?

I think he meant to say the future GTR which will be getting hybrid technology will make 800 hp from the factory

watson853 07-27-2014 10:37 PM

Here are the new supra details and while I'm not thrilled about it I can see nissan going the same direction.

Sports hybrids/electric cars are on the horizon it seems... lets see what is on the market (and the price) in 2017.

Yes, except the average user couldn't afford to buy a Porsche either.

my2004Z 07-28-2014 08:57 PM

The Nissan 2020 Concept on GT6 is in fact a hybrid. It makes use of regenerative braking as well. The car hits 170 mph quickly then creeps up past 200 steadily. A hint for future power bands? We shall see... :stirthepot: :driving:
