Well said..........What's quicker your brain thought process or a manual
transmission......................

Akurei 07-24-2014 11:31 AM

The Z is fun and all but there will always be a faster car than it. Just like when you buy a vette, its fun and way faster, but there will always be faster cars. When you get into a vette in the street, the only competition you'll have is 5 million other vettes and car's in that sports car range which is a good feeling yet very lonely and very common car in my opinion. But I rather have a Vette than a Z for the speed. It be pointless for me to have anything faster than a Z since I don't regularly attend drag stips or autox etc. Unless you don't mind rampaging the streets to supplement for it. It is fine to own a sports car and baby it but you'll be tempted. So I would really put some serious thought into it. I kinda regret getting the Z cause i feel bad babying it most of the time, but I like to take care of my machines cause I'm a gear head.

Just a ramble random paragraph put together btw bwahahaha

i just don't find it fun or exciting to drive a auto... a manual just connects you more to the car in my opinion.

:iagree:

I have MT. I like it, little notchy but fun to figure out. The SRM rocks.

A dual clutch transmission though. Would be nice to have that, as long as it was well integrated.

$60k is a lot of money for used cars. There are so many choices!

Lotus Exige/Evora/Elise, M3, Z4M, Carrera S, Cayman S/R, etc.

Is there a doctor in house or what? Damn.

Anyways, I tend to agree that pretty much any sports car is fast enough for most of us. Then it comes down to do you like the way it looks and how you feel when you sit inside it and drive it? That's all HIGHLY subjective. Test drive a bunch of cars, find one you'd rather have than the money sitting in your bank account. :tiphat:

Personally, I'd go with the Z. It drives great and looks better than any car anywhere near it's price range. It's a steal. Just my opinion!

Greeting's Dot.Comee, a Z is a great car at a great price. I just bought
my second Nismo a left over 2013 silver with zero miles for under 35k....
Then again I'm not a real doctor...

Nice approach--very similar to the one I've taken over the years. But wait until you're my age and find yourself ranting about someone's bad driving (or some other behavior) because they are old and then realize that he or she is probably younger than you are

Bleek, 1st question I gotta ask you. Have you owned or driven a 6 mt 370Z? 2nd question, what are you going to use the car for, DD, track, 1/4, auto x?

Your initial post says you want something faster than a Z, manual trans, under $60k and new. A new base C7 or base Shelby GT will be right at that amount. A new Nismo will save you $20K plus and handle just as good, if not better, just a tad slower. But it will eat your A4.

So test drive the Z or better yet, have an owner near you really take you for a drive. $20K plus can buy a lot of other things that put a smile on your face as well.

KMO-II 07-24-2014 02:24 PM

For the price and performance, and dont forget the looks, the 370Z NISMO is the sexiest ride on the market. just me tho.

gbrettin 07-24-2014 02:48 PM

How about a BMW 1 Series M. 45-50k and they are holding their value.

I don't know honestly. I've driven numerous 370s, and while I feel they're "fast", I just want something that pulls harder. I'll be living in Texas (come November), so I'm assuming both :driving:

Since getting the wife the fully loaded A4, I've honestly fell in love with Audi. Their technology in their new cars are amazing. While I'm not a HUGE fan of the MMI, I still love the interior and all the tech stuff they have.

I've been a Z owner since I was 17 and currently now 32. Still have my 280z and 300zx. Bought a 2009 sport touring 370z in 09 when they first came out. Unfortunately it was wrecked a year and a half later. Shopped other cars but instead got a 2010 NISMO. Two months ago I was itching for something new and faster. Like you I was looking to spend 60k or Less. I looked at C7's but it would have put me at 68k plus it's a first year model and don't want any issues. So instead I bought a 2012 Corvette Grand Sport with only 3k miles on it.

Let me tell you, it's loads faster than the Z and I get more compliments/looks than the Z. Like others have said the Vette is far more common place compared to the Z. I rarely see 370z's on the road like I do Vettes but for some reason people pay more attention to the Vette. Personally in the looks department I like the Z a bit more, but that's not to say I don't like the Vette.

As for performance, hands down better than the Z. Yes, the non-Z51 pkg or non-GS pkg Vettes are not as nimble as the Z is. My ex used to have a regular 06 Vette and compared to my Z on the auto-x course it was not as nimble. My GS Vette on the other hand is every bit as nimble as the Z, has better cornering at high speeds on say a fwy bend or on ramp, and is loads faster. Coming from a NISMO the Vette interior is on par or better. Basically this car is just a bridge gap until I feel comfortable enough buying a new C7. Letting them work out the bugs.

In my opinion for the money you are talking about I'd go with a lightly optioned C7 if you want to take a small risk or get a slightly used C6 Vette GS. The Z is a great option too but it's severely lacking in power compared to other cars in the 30k+ range. Yes you can mod it but modding a brand new car past doing exhaust has never been something I like doing. Other options I would recommend is the Camaro 1LE. My ex just bought one 6 months before we split and I loved that car. I almost got one myself but got lucky finding my Vette first. Any questions about the 1LE let me know, hands down better than the Z for the same money.

Honestly, I don't see myself getting a vette, it will be daily driven. Putting 93 octane in a daily driver while it's a V8... just sounds like something I don't wanna deal with. (not as if a v6 is gonna be THAT much better)

Thanks for the thoughtful post, +rep'd

Like I said above, I've test driven numerous 370s, but haven't pulled the trigger. I love the way they handle though. The car will be daily driven.

The A4 is my wife's daily. I can't drive anything right now anyway, I'm still overseas (as I have been for the past 3 years). The one car that you mentioned that I haven't looked at is the Shelby GT. I've never really been a fan of doing/buying what everyone else has(its a mustang, cmon now)... But I will definitely look into it.

Since getting the A4, I'm really into the Audi S5. It'll put me right at 60k, it's manual and it has luxury features. (blind spot warning, heated seats, etc) I have not test driven the S5, but I will be sure to do that when I return in November.

Does anyone have any info as to when the 2015 Z's are coming out? And when they're gonna bring out the Z35?

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Magic Bus 07-24-2014 06:10 PM

Got my 13Z, 2nd week of Aug in 2012 but mine was not the 1st 13Z purchased. So my guess is the last week of July is when the first 15's will start to arrive at some dealers lots.

As for Z35, only the crystal ball knows ;)

njobe89 07-25-2014 06:17 AM

the audi s5 is a nice car, i wanted to get it but decided to get the 370z. the z is just unique and in a class of it's own. i'll see a couple of s5's on the road daily, but i'll maybe run into one 370z every couple of days.

Hotrodz 07-25-2014 08:42 AM

There are lot of guys with boosted Zs in Texas, it might be worth your while to get a ride in one and maybe drive one. There is no comparing a boosted Z to a NA Z! I went with the Fast Intentions TT and the kit performance is worth every penny. The power comes on smoothly, strong and predictably! I have let a few Z owners that are familiar with boosted Z drive it and they are blown away! SS_Firehawk's wife told he needs to find the money buy this kit!!!!

Mt Tam I am 07-25-2014 02:17 PM

For the money get the Z. For $60K get the C7.
