Why would a 2012 Nismo be sold at Auction?

There is a 2012 Nismo being sold by a Ford dealer for just $25k. The dealer foes not have a car fax but has an "Auto Check" which shows a clean car, sold at Auction where this dealer purchased it.

It looks like a great deal but why would a car with just 4500 miles be sold at an auction?

kenchan 07-21-2014 12:45 PM

maybe a lemon?
maybe modded? (or was modded and some areas cut?)
maybe was a test mule?
maybe was used as a magazine editor's car?

 no idea.

cooltoy 07-21-2014 12:46 PM

Could have been confiscated by police in a drug bust.

kenchan 07-21-2014 12:47 PM

^^ good one.

enkei2k 07-21-2014 12:52 PM

mafia car.

dead bodies were transported in the back.

kenchan 07-21-2014 12:54 PM

^^ scary one.

njobe89 07-21-2014 12:58 PM

cause there was probably something that needed to fixed on it. with that fix it would outweigh the profit that they could make so they gave it to an auction.

At a nissan dealership a friend works at, they got a gtr for 50,000 and to service it and fix everything it would have cost 12,000 and would leave minimum profit. so they gave it to an auction and sold it for like 57,000.

kenchan 07-21-2014 12:59 PM

^^ sounds about right.

Confused it with a Mustang?

ZeeBabar 07-21-2014 01:14 PM

Auto check shows no accident or damage record

and yet it was sold at auction.

Also, autocheck says it is a "base nismo"???

The way I heard the story is that the owner died inside the car and wasn't discovered for a couple of weeks. The car is pristine except for the odor.

( Click to show/hide )
Wait! I think that was a Corvette.

And I first heard that tale in '62 or '63.

Thats awesome price! Is that OTD or before TTL?

ryang 07-21-2014 03:18 PM

Dealer buy and trade cars at auctions often. Most likely it was traded in an area where a sports car like 370 would be hard to sell, so they put it on auction for other dealers to pick it up if they think they have a market for it.

Greeting's Ssmoked the final price was before taxes and license plates....

Volk Z 07-21-2014 03:23 PM

If the car was traded in and didn't sell then it would go to auction especially a unique buyer market car like a nismo.
I was going to trade my 2013 in with 4509 miles to the dealer I bought it from as they were going to give me 1000 less then I had it listed for and they said if it didn't sell in 2 or 3 months it would go to auction and they may lose money.

This was of course because I earned a good relationship with the sales manager and I told him I would buy a 2016 Z when they come out

Was it a difficult negotiation or did they give the car away since it didn't sell? There are 4 2013 Nismos within 100 miles of my zip code. hmmmmm

Wrong. You can only get a single body in there without resorting to butchery, which ruins the interior. Trust me.

wanker 07-21-2014 03:55 PM

Never under estimate incompetence. Especially by a dealer is unfamiliar with the car's make and model. I've seen non-Nissan dealers claim a Z is a Nismo, when it's not. So it wouldn't surprise me if the dealer priced the car based on a standard Z model, without appreciating a Nismo's mark up.

Pro tip: Never use a chain saw on a clothed body.

Or so I've been told by someone with hands-on experience.

Greeting's Ssmoked, not a problem. Seems many 2013 370Z Nismo editions
are here in Northern, California...

Equipment needed.
1. Chain saw.
2. Chipper/shreader.
3. Rotortiller.

Just what I have been told by a few in the know.
