Direct Injection??

Hey guys, the other day I was talking to a friend of a friend about my 370 and his take on me buying the car was, "What a waste of money, you know they are coming out with direct injection soon right?"

Now putting aside the stupidity of the comment itself, does anyone have an idea as to when/if DI will be out for the 370? I've heard anywhere from 2011 MY to the next generation Z.

Infiniti bringing direction injection to M

Quick search online and this is the first mention I could find of Nissan/Infiniti of using direction injection. The engine will be the 3.7L V6, but it might not carry over to the Z or G until the next generation. They be using the M car for initial testing and then if proven slowly bring it into the playing field. I could see though DI being brought out in an "updated" Z with the 3.7L in 2012 or so. As they went from the DE to the HR engine I could see the DI system being the major change in the engines for the Z this go around.

Just remember. If u hav plans to mod the DI will be more difficult and way more expensive to mod.
All di will most likely do is give u 10 extra hp 20/27 mpg n bout .02seconds on the 0-60 time.
Combined driving fuel economy will most likely increase 1mpg n most gains will be felt on the highway.
All these attributes can be gained by simply upgrading the cars breathing system.
On days u don't mash the gas... u will gain 5% mpg.

These are many things to consider.
If u not going to mod? Then maybe the DI is an excellent value worth waiting for?

if D.I. does ever make it into the Z it will most likely be in the mid-cycle redesign if the car makes it that far in 2012.

Are you really willing to wait 2 years for 10 hp and some increased mileage?

Just throw a HFC and call it a day

That's kind of what I was thinking as well. If it hasn't even made it into the G37 yet, we are at least a few years off from it being in the Z. This guy was pretty adamant about it though, lol.

There may be a bit of an issue with DFI on the new DFI Porsches. It appears that a few people have experienced carbon build-up on the intake valves, strange.

Also, don't forget all of the issues on the 335i fuel pumps. I got a letter from BMW telling me they were extending the warranty on my fuel pump.

kind of an old news about G37's DI

I'm all for new and advancing technology, including DI engines. My IS350 has DI and it is a very smooth and responsive engine. I have only once small gripe about DI. When at idle, it makes a ticking sound due to the high pressure gas line things (sorry, I don't know exactly what those are called).

If there is a an true advantage to DI, then it would be a good thing for Infiniti / Nissan to embrace.

i thought i read a article while back that said they were not doing to do Direct Injection but they were going to do Dual Injection which would still yield 15% better results.
