Got hit this morning...
Never thought this would happen, but, it happened. A lady didn't see the traffic stopped ahead of her and hit me from the back going about 20mph or so. There are two small dimples and an indentation of her license plate on the lower part of the bumper. I don't see any other damages. I will have a body shop check it out and provide her the quote.

Sorry to hear that man, this is one of my fears as well. You can never trust other drivers with crappy cars. (Or any car in that matter).

time for aftermarket bumper!
|
Sorry, but I know a shop in Houston selling a full red Nismo kit for CHEAP

yah, maybe it's because you drive a MT and probably only was braking very light while at a stop.
anyway, i got hit from behind at a parking lot a long time ago in my old car and since then, ive been VERY paranoid about getting rear ended... |
there are times when i see a big bump coming up, but there is a car following behind me.... i dont slow down as much as i want to before taking the bump as i fear the guy behind will rear end me. :ugh: it's a trauma..really.

let me guess...she was texting.

Someone rear ended me as well. Scratch with imprints. I didn't need a new rear but it was a grand to fix it.
And I'll be the first to say it..... :worthless: |
Believe it or not, dimples on bumpers take a lot of labor. Should be more than enough to get you into an amuse rep. The foam block is automatically replaced. Then the bumper, paint, and the labor. Adds up to 1200. Amuse rep is $600 new. You have enough to paint and install. I you are lucky, you can buy used that matches your paint.

When I had my '09, I accidentally backed into someone in my driveway. I was in "go to work" mode and totally forgot that I had visitors. The only damage to my rear bumper were some scratches down to the plastic, and a chipped tail light. My original thinking was that I would skip repairing the light, as it did not break the housing, and just get the paint damage fixed w/o insurance. I quickly changed my mind after visiting a collision shop. The estimate was over 2Gs to repair all of the damage. Needless to say, I filed a claim. Coincidentally, I'm going to get a damage estimate tomorrow regarding my accident last weekend. Care to make an over under on the cost of repairs? What I can tell you is damaged is the front bumper, left fender, left front wheel and tire, and probably the wheel arch plastics. From my previous experience, Nissan will want to replace everything, rather than repair. I'm going to see if I can get a new set of tires, rather than just the one. I don't think there is anything wrong with the suspension components. I'm also not sure how they are going to handle the wheel. It's a 19" TE37 with a nasty bend on the lip. The bead did not break and the tire has been holding air just fine. A wheel repair shop said it can be straightened and then powder coated, but I don't think Nissan / State Farm will go for that. I'll say 3K is the low 6K is the high... |
^^^ your looking at 10k actually.
|
I cring at the thought of it. I'm always worried about people rearending me. All you can do is expect it with all the shitty drivers out there these days.

I was sitting at a stop light back in '97 in my '83 Datsun 200sx and some lady nailed me from behind doing 60kph. Some people are just oblivious. Wrote off one of the best cars I ever owned. Got a whopping $500 for it to boot.

Sorry for all this mess. No mention of back pain says you've dodged the worst bullet.
|
Ever since the nickel jolt I spent at Folsom, I have this intense fear of "rear-enders".
|
So, the estimate for repair is around $1000. Should I go with an aftermarket bumper? How much cost am I looking at to get an aftermarket bumper, have it painted, and installed?

that said, if you're not planning on adding any more bits, get the stock bumper. authentic fitment > most aftermarkets. |
If you want a new bumper, ask/negotiate for 1200 from their insurance. You can end up with an amuse rep for 600 and then pay for paint and install. Find a good body shop to do the job. Ask forum members from Dallas. Once you start with this mod, you cannot end right there and must work your way to the front of your Z.
If you can live with the way it looks right now, you can pay off some bills or put it towards a performance mod. |

Dig up all the accident threads and research how many are in Tx. Then research how many got rear ended by an idiot. Usually a female, blonde. |
