Bad Crash, How Safe is the Z?

this thing looks terrible. how safe are our cars? hope who ever was in there is alright.

think the spare tire was on pre or post crash. if pre crash, then relevant to the accident?

Looks like a motorcycle hit it at high speed. Unless you're riding a tank, a high speed bike will do that to any car.

kenchan 07-09-2014 07:04 PM

wow...

Motorcycle? A double wide one? Lol

Chris, in all the accidents I've seen here, it's pretty safe. In this scenario though... I think in any car the passenger would've been fúcked

Gold wing. A car on 2 wheels!

NoLaKrewe 07-09-2014 08:37 PM

Not many cars would take that blow well if any. I wonder how my tank would of taken the hit.

I don't think Gold Wings go 150, lol

Wow! That's terrible looking.

I think the spare was put on post crash because it looks pretty clean compared to the rest of the car.

That, or the spare on the rear cause an issue and the car wrapped around a tree?

Or it got t-boned by a Smart car.

I was thinking the same thing high rate of speed small impact area almost like a missile that didn't detonate. Horrible crash

I doubt our Zs are the safest cars on the road, but that's not why I bought mine... Safety is probably not a top priority when designing any sports car, really.

actually the car is pretty safe, most of the time it is the tard behind the wheel that makes it unsafe.

Haboob 07-10-2014 08:03 AM

$1250 for that?

No thanks.

pull the engine, sell it, get your money back plus more. most damage looks body versus mechanical. same with the brake calipers (not rotors).

Still wouldn't waste a $1250 plus shipping, etc. on that.

Maybe $200. ;)

O yeah they do! Wheelie and scrap pegs too.

I heard the doors aren't that solid; Miata's have more solid sounding doors. If that was a miata in that pic im sure there would have been little damage and most of it would have buffed right out.

Cmike2780 07-10-2014 09:25 AM

The thing is, ALL cars are inherently dangerous and there is no such thing as a crash proof car. Even in racing, with the every safety gear and cage in place, people still get hurt or die from crashes. This poor Z in the thread looks like it was hit at the worst possible section of any car. It doesn't take much speed either...probably around 40mph. The 05-08 350Z tops the list of being the deadliest cars on the road. What makes it more deadly than any other isn't because of the car, it's because of the driver base who thought they were characters from Tokyo Drift.

This^
Whenever I'm told something seems too dangerous to do, I just respond with, "driving could be just as dangerous.. And You do that every day" lol..

If 3 wheels are still good, (rear has spare) plus transmission with hole in bell housing, plus what is left? ....might be worth $1250 but not to me.

I don't know. This Z looks like it was hit at a much higher rate of speed. My 06 WRX was hit at 45mph by a full size Toyota Tacoma going 45mph without braking. I was hit on the passenger side door area. Sure the cabin was caved in a bit but the car was still driving and I didn't have a single injury, not even whiplash. I mean Subaru's are known for being one of the safest cars on the road but still. This Z was hit by something going much faster.

Limeybastard 07-10-2014 10:30 AM

I would like to add a question to this thread, do 370z burst into flames when crashed ?
I have yet to see a image of one that burned.

true, subaru prides itself on being one of the top rated cars when it comes to safety. just think about the "they lived" commercial :D

Looking at the car that started this thread, I would have to say no. If any car was going to burn, this was a good candidate.

Don't sleep on the Gold Wing.

When I was into the sport bike scene there was an older guy named Willie that used to ride with us. He had a red gold wing he would keep up 90% of the time and take corners scraping parts.

Drakonis GTR 07-10-2014 05:53 PM

If you want to see scary, look at a Saturn that has been hit by a sport bike at high speed. Gotta love them plastic cars...

LOOOOOOOL, I thought we lost our history. Glad someone is keeping it alive still!

They may be ugly, quiet, and mostly ridden by old men, but those Goldwings are no joke. They have a V6 engine that can cruise with most 600s on an open road and they'll absolutely demolish any Harley that wants to play the "my bike is bigger than yours" game. They're no sport bike but they can still probably out-accelerate our Zs.:wtf2:

Few years back, someone got into a head on collision with a Chevy truck. The driver and the passenger died in the Chevy while the couple in the 370z survived. Driver suffered broken leg while his wife walked away without a scratch. There was a thread about this.

chii370 07-13-2014 12:25 PM

Did they ever officially release the crash test ratings for the 370? I heard through the unofficial grapevine that it did better than the 350, and if im not mistaken that has a very good crash test rating? Nothing to back up those claims, im just repeating things ive heard over the years.

But yeah motorcycle>car when the two meet. All that energy is focused in a little tiny knife edge and slammed into the weakest part of the car, the side. Or it just got hit by a smaller car that was going 90+ mph.
