Since I like the sound of my engine 4 - 5K is about normal. I also get 12-13 MPG.

Yeah, I do that too. Actually I'll even wind it out to 6-7k if I'm merging or whatever... Needless to say, I'm always amazed at how much my fuel range increases when I go on long, boring highway trips.

Guess OP is in his break in period and wants to follow the rules. 4K is fine OP. After that have at it :driving:

Oh I wind it out too. How could we not.

I too am surprised what MPG a steady pace in 6th gear produces.

Putting around, I'll shift at 3K. If I'm getting into it a little, around 5K makes the butt dyno happy... Otherwise, for maximum acceleration, redline.

i suggest you find a empty parking lot and go mess around and learn your own shift points and get a feel for the car.

The VQ37VHR needs 2 b revved to @ least 5k to get any torque...1st...5k, 2nd...5.5k...3rd...5.9k...5th...I'm @ state MPH limit....cruze set...

Does the owners manual say when to shift? (I know some do)

I think the light on the dash is programmed for 7K from the factory, that's good enough for me.

This is what the 2014 manual has to say. Nothing about RPM, just MPH. This is efficient driving, quicker acceleration, and maximum speed per gear respectively. For my driving, I am somewhere in between quick and max, I couldn't imagine shifting at the "effecient" points.

^ I shift pretty much exactly at those "efficiency" points

I'd also like to help complete that last chart as well... 4th - 120 5 - 140

My car had no mods at the time and I stopped at the top of fifth...

Asheth 07-26-2014 06:49 PM

I like to shift at 2k and let it putt a little
