Getting into a Locked Z with Dead Key Fob?
When I got my 370z new at the dealership, I got two key fobs but no actual keys with the car. While I don't currently have any problems, I am thinking ahead to the situation where the key fob battery dies and I need to get into the car. I know the key fob can start the car using the fobgina but getting into the car is what concerns me.
Do I need to ask the dealer for a key? Should one have come with the car? |
The keys inside the FOB. If you look at the back of the FOB you will see a little slider, slide that and then pull on the side with the key ring.
|
The key fob is also a key itself. Look for a tab on the back of the fob, depress it and pull down towards the bottom back of the fob. A key will pop out. It should open the door with a key?? Then again I havent had to do this but it worked on my other cars. I also used to lock my glovebox during valet with my old car.

There's a key in the fob. Just turn to the back and there is a small button you press that will release the key.

Yea, what the last three said. Secret key there but dont tell anyone

No need for me to HELP, It looks like you guys have this well covered.

They must have not given him an owners manual either.

no just kidding... |
Cars have owners manuals?? That you have to (gasp) READ?
|
In the OP's defense, the dealer should have shown this little detail to him on delivery. Mine did.
|
LMAO. In fact I believe all manufacturers key fobs are like ours; an actual key within the fob.

Maybe the OP will allow us to have a bit of fun at his expense :tiphat: Thanx OP and hope you don't feel too banged up by our banter  |

Big miss on the dealer's part. They probably failed to push your battery storage fuse all the way in making it virtually impossible to save your convenience settings and home link. All these things you paid for when you signed papers. There is a charge that covers these services when you buy the vehicle. |

A good salesman would know what he/she is selling. A good salesman is hard to find...
Seriously though, I imagine it would be a pain to have to sit down and read through all of the factory brochures, talk to the techs, etc, to get the low down on all the vehicles Nissan sells. And that's assuming that you were at a Nissan dealership. Most of the salesman I have seen prefer the James Bond approach (i.e. BS their way through it), so I have gotten to the point where I do my own research, and then school the salesman so that he doesn't look quite so much like a fool next time around. My little public service. As for what Bking said, I think most vehicles key fobs come with a key inside of them. The only one I've ever seen that didn't look like it had one was the key/thing they used for early 2000 model SAABs. Though thinking back on it, I guess you could call the huge plastic plug that came off the end of it as a key... |

Good Q. I knew more about my Z than the sales guy. They should have given me the commission. |

When I was selling Sony car/home stereos, I could tell you the major features/specs on every model we stocked and most of what was in the catalog. The details that I didn't have in my head, I could look up in a minute or two. Same when I was selling Apple computers. And my fellow salespeople were just as knowledgeable about what we were selling. But that was decades ago (about three of 'em) and times have changed. When you find a good salesperson, support them. They are a dying breed. |
