Tour The Shop That Built A 1,000 Horsepower V8 Nissan 370Z

Chris Forsberg's Nissan 370Z with a nitrous-shot pickup truck V8 is one of the coolest tuner cars in the country. Here's the shop that built it.

wow, that's crazy.

especially when i read nismo is running a 4banger turbo on the superGT500 GTR's now. :icon17:

Davey 07-01-2014 04:31 PM

I would have put an LS3 in it or something.

That would be too easy. Everyone and their mom does an LS swap, it's sweet that he stuck with nissan and made a 1000hp vk56.

Davey 07-01-2014 04:44 PM

I like easy. And cheap.

Wait are we talking about cars still?

theDreamer 07-01-2014 04:47 PM

Actually, I think his old engine just all motor was in the 6xxWHP range and he is using a VK56 again but threw on a bottle to push it even farther.

Masterbeatty 07-01-2014 04:49 PM

Still that is fuggin redonkulous in a 370z.

Davey 07-01-2014 04:50 PM

It sounds pretty healthy, that's for sure.

One simple word. Outstanding

Definitely confused...

Why is 1000 HP necessary for a drift car? Is that much power really beneficial, or could he have continued using his 6XX HP car and kept up with the other competitors?

Of all things, why spray? Would a supercharger not be the optimal power-adder?

Solomatrix 07-01-2014 07:32 PM

cool!

enkei2k 07-01-2014 08:06 PM

what's in the wheel wells?? :rofl2:

My guess is the shot helps to break traction verrrry easily in order to initiate a drift. it's overkill, but its all basically stunt driving, so...

A blower (especially roots or twin screw) would definitely be the way to go for a road course car, tho'. To ram a car sideways, the shot actuator probably acts like a "slide" button.

theDreamer 07-02-2014 08:27 AM

Picture of the old engine, but it is the same engine just new now. I believe he sold the original one to another drifter with a 370z. I believe the reason is the shot is to just make instant power to slide and keeping the car NA allows for better cooling and less "issues" during competition.

I don't know all the FD rules, but I know once the competition starts you can call a timeout for only a certain time to 'fix' something and if you do not get to the line you forfeit. So, simplifying the engine/car is key to staying competitive.

That all makes sense. I just figured nitrous would be a little bit too volatile, but who am I to argue with a pro drifter and his race team.

shaun66 07-02-2014 06:03 PM

Looks like a tight fit! I wish they would put a V8 in these cars.

My opinion on the next Z, which follows the current trend, would be a 2.4L turbo... I wonder what they could call it.

Having been to Formula Drift for at least 8 years now I can tell you that there is a HUGE difference between the 300-500hp cars they all started with to todays +1000hp beasts. Even when the 600-700hp monsters go up against something with +1000hp you can without a doubt tell the difference. The cars with more power catch up to the lead cars so much quicker while still maintaining their angle. I was asking myself the same question before I saw it in action. hah

Codename067 07-04-2014 12:59 PM

Damn a V8 in a 370...with 1000 horses...we gonna need a new button in the car...beast mode button!!!!
