Hi guys. I just recently noticed something off about my Z. The right side hatch seems to have a gap. It might be difficult to see through the pictures but believe me its there. Is this something normal? Can i fix this myself or should the dealer fix this? Any input would be greatly appreciated. And if this is a topic already covered then i apologize. I couldn't find anything.

coolvans1988 06-17-2014 08:54 PM

Did you install new struts for the hatch?

Nvm, ur car a 2014... take it to the dealer

Evil 370Z 06-17-2014 08:55 PM

no new struts. Just bought the car new less than a month ago

DEpointfive0 06-17-2014 08:57 PM

My car has had the same thing since day 1. Welcome to Nissan!

The paint sucks balls too, might wanna clear bra it... Like today...

kenchan 06-17-2014 08:58 PM

i remember someone said something about adjusting the striker so something... cant remember the thread. but it wasnt uneven like that L/R, it was more like the hatch didnt seem to close all the way. anyone remember that thread?

i would take the car to the dealer since you're probably still well within warranty.

kenchan 06-17-2014 08:59 PM

i would also check if the rubber springs are even.

VCuomo 06-18-2014 01:35 PM

Since it looks you bought your Z very recently, wait for a month or two and see if there's any other warranty work that needs to be taken care of, and then just take it back to the dealer and let them take care of everything at the same time.

There should be a round stop on each side that you can turn to adjust in and out. Looks like the one on the right is out further than the one on the left. I know the stops are there, I'm just guessing they are adjustable.

What are you talking about? :icon14:

Silly Rabbit 06-18-2014 06:10 PM

Nevermind what I posted. There are 2 rubber stops and 2 spring stops, but they aren't adjustable. I just recall seeing them and thought they might be adjustable. They aren't.

cooltoy 06-18-2014 06:51 PM

You silly rabbit.

Now you are making me want to go and look at mine.

I didn't even notice until one of my friends pointed it out to me. He thought the hatch wasn't closed :shakes head:

Dont worry its Nissan's so called tolerances.

I bought mine with 1500 miles on it, was a 2014. I was very suspect that the rear was repaired as tail gate on mine sits slightly over the left side of the fender more than the right side ( gaps relatively even) . Also, the gap between the inside rear tailight to bumpers do not match symetrically. Another one, looking at the rear tailgate glass, the driver side appears to have a slightly bigger gap compared to the passanger side. The gap on the metal panel to roof trim is fine, but the glass seems to be a little off!

I found no evidence of paint work, and I used to be in the body shop business so know what to look for. I believe this is how they go out sometimes.

Personally I wouldnt bother using warranty to get this fixed, you will end up probably with a car that looks like it was repainted. They will have to adjust the nuts and the paint will come off and not look original again.

PS I will try and take some pics at same angle as yours and post.

More like.:ughdance::ugh2: ;)

Limeybastard 06-18-2014 08:51 PM

Some pics of mine I just took for your kind attention LOL.

Notice the glass gap and also cannot see in picture, the driver side hatch lid sits ever so slightly more over the drivers side fender than other side here.

wow! i can't believe Nissan ignored this. You would think they would have caught this. Love the magma red

ajc1884 06-19-2014 09:35 AM

unfortunately its pretty normal. Don't look at it! Like someone else mentioned in an earlier post if you look at it anymore it will start to make your eyes burn....look away, look away.

cooltoy 06-19-2014 01:32 PM

I looked at it again in the daylight. Eeehhh, doesn't look that bad. Hardly noticeable, especially if you don't look at the other side to compare too. I can live with it.

nomodsjk 06-21-2014 12:15 PM

I have the same issue. Don't know what caused it but mine is the same way

cooltoy 06-21-2014 01:00 PM

Nissan caused it.

^^^^ this.

My rubber stoppers got turned a bit when i washed/wiped it down under the hatch area. I freaked but it was just one of those stoppers. Easy to check.

Onzedge saved me from myself. Lol

Limeybastard 06-21-2014 02:33 PM

Post your tail gate / hatch panel gaps images here.. I did so please other also do it, thanks.

if you want perfect things, go with infiniti G37 or Bmw , audi or porsche ... :bowrofl::bowrofl:

Before going with 370z i always thought Z is the top line of Nissan, everything should be perfect but i was wrong. Line cap, plastic sealant on window and the paint is :gtfo2: cheap. My friend own infiniti and the paint quality is different. i have to say they are same company but Nissan purposely make their cars look so cheap :roflpuke2::roflpuke2: (at least they should throw G37 paint into 370z )

Limeybastard 06-22-2014 06:02 PM

Little birdie tells me that at the moment Infiniti is only produced in Japan due to their quality standards. That will change in the future with the lowest end model being built in the states.

Nissan...well they are produced in the States, Mexico, China, India, UK, Russia, gutter, Billy Bob's back yard, etc.

Sorry for the derail. Back to your regularly scheduled topic.
