strange ticking sound after I turn car off
when I am either idling or turn the car off after driving I hear this faint ticking sound that is coming from under the car. My friend said it was possibly a heat shield and I don't really need to worry about it is that true?

Heat shield, an when you turn the car off that clicking is the throttle bodies checking something or something, lol
|
Probably some electrical part "resetting" (DEpointfive0's TB sounds like a likely suspect).
"Ticking" doesn't tell us much. How fast do the ticks occur? Periodic/random/variable? How long does the ticking last? |

It's like a few ticks a second . It occurs for a minute or two after I turn the car off but it might still make the sound when the car is on but I can't hear it over the engine

Happens on most, if not all of my cars...nothing to be alarmed about

As per Amj2020, it's nothing to worry about (assuming the noise is caused by cooling). I don't remember having a vehicle that didn't do it. Back when I was in high school, I would drive my Mom's Electra 225 with 455 CID engine like it was stolen and it would tick and pop for 10 minutes or so after shutdown. :) |
Check to make sure George Costanza didn't make a place to take a nap under your Z ;)

OP, most of my cars making that noise too. It's just the car being cooling down. Nothing to worry about. |
Happens to my 2009. No worries.
