New, possibly stupid question
Let me preface by saying I rarely, if ever drive without my music blaring do this issue (or non-issue) could just be a quirk of the car, I don’t know. Anyway, I was in a drive though yesterday and noticed an inordinate amount of racket coming from beneath the car as I had put it in neutral and since the teller was taking too long I released the clutch and put on the emergency break.
Now, the question, with the clutch petal depressed, no noise, as soon as I release just to sit idle I get what I can only describe as a clatter. Depress the clutch, nothing...and so on and so forth. Now I'm fully aware that in tight quarters such as a drive through that ANY noise is exagerated to the point of concern but this one seemed at the very lease irregular. Paranoid or something I need to check in on? |
mine does the exact opposite. no noise idle, noise as I'm holding in the clutch. like you said it sounds like a "clatter"
|
that is normal OP, mine did the exact same thing when i had it
|
Very normal, these cars just tend to make more racket kind of noise than sweet music to your ears kind of noise :)
|
The good 'ol clutch rattle. My '06 350Z did it, and my new '14 370Z does it.
When I first heard it in my 350Z it bothered me, but I got used to it over the years. When I got my '14 it was like the car was welcoming me home... |
I don't have a problem with clutch chattering on my '14 Z, but I do get the tick noise from the engine every cold start up
|
my stomach growls while at drive thru...
|
My 2012 makes a ton of noise from the throw-out bearing, sounds like a bunch lose pieces of metal inside the transmission ... at times it gets louder, yet I only have 16k miles. Going to take it to Nissan and bitch about it, maybe I will get them to replace it under warranty and while there upgrade the clutch and flywheel. Maybe I am exaggerating, but I have only owned BMWs other than Z cars
|
my 09 does that sometimes, then i depress and release the clutch and it will stop...seems normal clutch chatter

I had a valet bring my car to me and the sound is louder outside.

Thanks all for the info, good to know that it's not just me, but I do have it scheduled to be looked at just in case. Couldn't hurt. |

I just searched for this same thing. I discovered My '13 nismo makes the clattering noise at idle...depress the clutch and it's gone. Glad I'm not the only one! Only found out as my wife was helping me test for leaks in my new exhaust...guess I'd never been outside the car with it idle since I bought it.

Glad you got your answer OP :tiphat: |
Nissan's in general have a bad rep for mechanical noise. I don't think I've watched or read a single review on a GT-R that didn't mention all the weird mechanical noises. I think my 370 has the loudest throw-out bearing noise I have heard. But the only time I notice it is when I'm idling through a parking lot in first gear with the clutch pedal out. It used to really bug me but I'm used to it now. Luckily I don't idle much through parking lots and as soon as I get on the gas I hear the sweet sound of my Berk exhaust.
