Had to happen...eventually...
2 Attachment(s)
So today - pulling in my garage at work after lunch at 1:35 pm - we have two lanes: 1: visitors and valet 2: employees.
As I swipe my card and slowly drive by to go to the lower levels - a guy in a 1993 Vette convertible swings open his 3 foot door and whacks my front fender behind the wheel - as I'm driving by. He gets out and starts yelling at me that I should have stopped. CA law says otherwise. Plus - he was almost on the double yellow line and had 3+ feet on the passenger side between his car and the curb. I quietly said "do you want to handle this like an adult, or other wise?" He starts screaming. So I put him verbally in his place and scared the living **** out of him. For being a white boy - I can honestly be very scary. His insurance card was from 2011, he is 81 - and ironically enough we have the same birthday. It's not that bad...and State Farm has already ruled it his fault. Also - car is already at the shop and I'm in a rental. LOVE STATE FARM. About a foot-long scratch, a small 7" dent and the Z light smashed. Anyway - if his insurance is indeed expired - I'll have his license suspended. |
Glad you got taken cared off.
As a side note, Vette......81 yr old driver.......ummmm that's no perception.....it's reality. |
I've met you... And I'm not a small guy by any means... (Granted, mainly fat ássness) but I would never want to fúck with you, LOL, maybe if I was Arnold Schwartzeneggar when he was on steroids
Good luck! And I may have a spare Z light if it helps you out |
Man that sucks balls
|
Sorry to see... :(
|
Did you at least ask him what he thought about the Z ?!
|
Fvcking people not paying attention :shakes head: Age is no excuse, or else you shouldn't be driving.
Sorry to hear about this, but good job on getting the repairs moving so quickly. It's nice to have a good insurance carrier. Good luck with everything :tiphat: |
An old fart in a Vette did something stupid and then got indignant about it? I'm shocked.:werd:
|
Hey tough guy, doesn't matter if you are white, brown, black, blue, yellow, red....he's still 81.

He didn't say he was gonna beat the guy... If anything, I said the OP is a big mofo even I wouldn't consider fighting, lol |
I'm not in the habit of defending myself. But re-read my post. I got out of the car to be an adult and nice about it - and he went off on me. Yelling at me.
That does not work for me no matter the age. I respect my elders - when they deserve it. Act like an adult. And by the way - I'm 50. Quote:

Ive seen you since the g37 days, never knew you are that old haha jp

Sorry about the incident OP. But you're absolutely right, these things are bound to happen. Take for example, my 350Z. When I left Germany in 2011, I decided to store it at a Porsche dealership. Everything was fine until the owner decided to put my car in the showroom. Flattering it may be, his father somehow managed to scratch the door of my pristine car with his wheelbarrow. I'm not sure how, but even the A-pillar had to be painted. Long story short, my insurance had to pay for everything.

Clearly reading comprehension isn't your thing. You need to go back and re-read what happened to poor OP and then make an informed post... |
did he ask you "is that a porsche?"
|
Well, at least he didn't back his car into yours. I've seen that happen before. It wouldn't even bother me if it was a situation that couldn't be avoided. But when you see an woman in her 70s (at least) get into her car, put it in reverse, and then stare straight ahead, not looking at any of her mirrors or anything, and just keep backing up until she hits something, then puts it in drive and rolls away, you start to wonder if perhaps we should have people take another driver's test at, say, the age of 75 or so...

Good for you trying to take the high road. I see people flinging doors open without a care in the world all the time.

Got her back yesterday...better than new. It's amazing the shine those shops can put on a car. Mag Black has never looked better!
Probably last until tomorrow...lol |

The OP came off full of braggadocio like a 21 year old and not a 50 year old even though the old fart in the Vette was at fault and acted like a jerk. You shouldn't be scaring the living **** out of an 81 year old man. |
No need to argue over my actions.
I was not bragging. Nor would I ever. I will say that had anyone else been there and been verbally assaulted and attacked like I was by this man - you would understand my reaction of "standing up for myself in an appropriate manner". He was in a nice suit, obviously very astute for his age - but in typical LA fashion nothing is ever anyone's fault and never will they take ownership of actons. He felt he could bully me and I would simply back down. And for the record - he lives in a 2.1 million house in Brentwood, and yet he did not have current insurance. And the accident was rule 100% his fault. And he will be paying diminished value. |
Ya'll take it too seriously. There are seem old mean people out there. I have had my fill on a few old people trying to shove their ego's in my face and I had to make it clear with them. It has nothing to do with their age, status, anything in that nature. You try to make me look a *****, I will put you in your place in a 3 step manner. I'll start with 1, verbally using wits. 2 is talking the way I do when I'm mad, cussing them out. 3 if they swing, I'm kicking their ***. It's simple as that

That is much more true today than then. Good luck in your crusade. |
Oh man, that happened to me too. But it was the back fender at a costco gas station. SUV opened their door on me. My Z was brand new, just got my plates when it happened.
|
if a 80 year old man swung at me, i would not hit him back... if a 80 year old man can catch you with a punch then you need put the doughnuts down. if it's someone my age then there is no problem hitting back, but someone that could be my grandpa, no.
|
F that, I would have murked that fool in his jaw, 81 or not!!! LOL jk I'm just a small Asian guy trying to pick on anybody that I can take advantage of. Real talk, you handled the situation well OP. I definitely don't like it when people try to talk down on you especially when they are at fault!
|
With age there is suppose to be wisdom. And a wise man knows you can solve things without problems. I have nothing to prove to anyone, especially an old man, but once they add me to their business in an offensive way, I will go through that 3 step process. So at least I'm giving them the chance to end the conversation. They won't get knocked out if they don't swing, thats all I'm saying. Good luck with being the "nice guy" journey in your life
|
Has nothing to do with being the "nice guy" it has to do with respect for the elderly
|
What if the 80 year old was Jack LaLanne or Chuck Norris, would you swingers still swing on Jack or Chuck? Or what if it was Jack and Chuck's 80 year old butt-baby; come to life to sell more Total Gym and Juice-o-Matics, still gonna take a shot?
What about if it was Yoda? Or Angela Landsbury? |
Yeah...the issue about getting confrontational with an old man is very touchy for me.
At the beginning of this year, long story short, this 65 y.o. man was barking at my father (who's 75) in a condescending manner. I'm Asian, and this 65 y.o. man is the same ethnicity as me. It's my culture and an unwritten rule, to be deferential to your elders. In this case it was the 65 y.o. man towards my 75 y.o. dad. My father did NOTHING to provoke this matter. So...the 65 y.o. man wouldn't tone down his voice. I walked up to him, spoke in my ethnic language, and yelled "Watch your manners!!" And the 65 y.o. man looked at me in disbelief, like "What are you going to do about it?!" look on his face. Now, mind you, this 65 y.o. man was not feeble, didn't walk with a cane, etc. He carried himself with a lot of alacrity...So I slapped him hard across his face. He charged at me...I punched him in the mouth, and laid him out. His friend calls the cops, and LAPD shows up...That's it. The cops were trying to take me away. But the ******* didn't press charges (which shows that he knew he was in the wrong). So yeah. I'm not judgmental towards the OP for the situation. |
OP sounds like a respectful man (of my gen) that simply shared his unfortunate situation with his Z family and really shouldn't be bashed for it. None of us were there – in his shoes. And he certainly doesn't sound like the kind of person that would ordinarily run around scaring older folks. Sometimes that just needs to happen to take control and de-escalate an emotional situation. - Just saying.
