For those who live in Apt...
How do you guys go about your oil change? In my current apartment working on your car is frowned upon:shakes head:. I just ignore them and find a place with 2 spots and jack away. The first time I changed my oil one of the guys in the office came out and i thought he was about to tell me to stop working on my car. It turns out he just wanted to know more about the Z and was very chill. I asked if it's ok to work on my Z if i clean up and don't get in other peoples way. He gave me to the go ahead:tup:
Anyone have similar experiences? |
I still live close enough to my folks that I just go to their house.

I have to be sneaky on mine.

I've got a garage luckily and they don't really care what you do in it. Hell, I've got an impact wrench I was using a ton back when I had the G37 and was doing suspension work. Though they're lenient enough I could probably just do it on the pavement so long as I clean up and keep any work small enough that it can be done in a single day.

Yeah i used to do it right in the city streets, i live in a Russian hood so its a common thing, lots of ppl come by see wuts up, try and help out if i need a tool or so. Now i got this new Engineering position so just drive in to the power plant, jack it up n do my thing, also everybody here do their own cars as well and happy to help out.

I just do it. The rules are not oily work but a long as you don't make a mess the office people stay away.
|
keep a gat in your waistband...jk Seriously tho the neighbors stopped complaining about my car being loud to our apt manager after they saw me unloading the car from a day at the range...just sayin :)
|
I work on my car, wash it and pretty much do whatever I please in the garage of my apt. building. They're ok with it as long as I don't leave a mess.

I told them that I AM a qualified mechanic and that I am not going to spend the extra $60 to have someone else do my oil changes. They were cool about it as long as I was out of the way of general traffic and didn't create too much of a racket. I swapped out my exhaust, my motordyne intake, diff and trans oil changes, plus my gen 3 intakes and they never said "hey you are goin to have to stop working on your car."

working on a car for a short period of time isn't illegal... i wouldnt even worry about it. i've installed my oil cooler in my apartments parking lot
|
I used to work in an office with a loading bay. I would just drive to work on the weekend change oil, do upgrades etc and it was nice to have an enclosed space to work in and peace and quiet.
|
I just take it down to the local autoparts store and do the work in the spaces out front, hell, everybody else does - why not me? :icon17:

Yup, frowned upon in my condo building.
I've taken it to a friends to do it and the other times, I just wait till I had a scheduled maintenance to do, and brought them my Royal Purple HPS to do as well. I'm due now, I think I might just do it at like 1am...for a building with a lot of trendy young people, there is a large amount of older people who aren't out and about past 10pm lol. |
