Damn, sorry to hear man.
Tell those f*ckers come to my house. I'm serious. |
Sorry to hear it chief. Nothing makes my blood boil faster than a thief.
As for the check, what you do with the money is your concern, not theirs. The assumption is that you will use it to put wheels/tires, and repair/replace damaged brakes with it. The fact that you may not be using OEM parts is negligible, since not all insurance repairs are made with OEM parts to begin with. DO KEEP IN MIND!! If you get aftermarket wheels and/or parts, that you may want to have them added to the insurance policy. Companies like Progressive and State Farm typically only insure up to $1k - $2k for aftermarket accessories (I use to work for Progressive at one of their Claims Concierge Centers) on normal auto policies. Anything beyond that is your loss, as they will just use OEM or basic aftermarket replacements. Chances are it will cost you a little extra, but when the **** hits the fan, you may be glad you did it. |
Awesome. Looks like the end might be near.
I found somebody local willing to lend me their stock 350z wheels in the meantime. Does anybody know if they will clear the sport brakes? I have 20/25 spacers on the car right now if it helps. |

So sorry to hear of your loss. Why the F*** do all Insurance companies
grill are butts and seem like their doing us a favor in life bye paying off a legitimate claim. You are the "victim" and not a suspect...The Insurance company needs to fire the knuckle head claims adjuster and apologize to you. Best of luck.. |

good new is you are going to have new wheels, new tire, new brake pad. if they give you over 5k im glad for you. Bad new is that your car will be reported to Carfax. also check if the theft destroy anypart while trying to jam wheel lock? Just wonder Will your insurance rate go up ? :tiphat: |

Since it is being paid out by the comprehensive part of my policy, I've been told that my rate would not change. Now it will still be reported one the insurance history record which I guess is a record shared among insurance companies. |
I'm not sure which is the bigger insult - having your wheels ripped off or having your Z called a "Mazda"...

Update:
Went to the service center today where I was told I was supposed to get a check cut out to me then and there. They ended up sending me away without a check since they have to research on the price quotes. Also there seems to be a bit of damage to my side skirts, two rotors (right side), and the metal shield behind the rotors on the rear wheels. They told me they will first write a check for the wheels to get that out of the way and for me to bring the car to a shop to assess the other damages (side skirt, rotors, and rotor shield). Would the Nissan dealer be able to give a quote on the side skirt repairs since most of their collision centers are offsite? Are they able to price it by online prices as well? If so, should I argue them for local dealer price quotes? |
A dealer should be able to do a basic quote, since they all have access to the same manuals and parts catalog. Usually they have the separate locations for collision centers so that they don't clog up their work bays with accident claims instead of vehicles in for the usual dealer maintenance. And the techs could always call the CC if they have questions that they don't know the answers to. Whether or not the prices listed in their parts catalog are the same as the online prices or not, I have no idea.
As for quotes, my recommendation is to have a quote done by the shop that YOU want to do the work. Insurance companies typically don't require multiple quotes, and are just as happy to pay what one shop asks for the repairs. As long as they do a thorough estimate, you should be good. It helps if the shop in question is a part of that insurance companies' repair network, but if it isn't, it isn't a deal breaker. You should still be able to use that shop, but you may or may not have to argue the point with the adjuster you are dealing with. Depends on the company, and how good the adjuster is feeling that day. Anyways, best of luck to you chief. |

Or check to see if you have any self storage spaces nearby with drive in units. I am suggesting this because I am doing something similar myself and I can tell you that if I had continued to leave my Z at my apt, my wheels and or whole car would have been jacked already. Obviously not everyone can have the most desirable housing situation to support our car hobby, but you can find ways to work around some situations. Wishing you the best in getting the check cut so you can get your new rims and get the damage repaired. |
The z is my daily so not really an option to garage it offsite haha. I got the check today and the amount is what I was initially expecting. They use a internal pricing program which priced the michelin pss a bit lower than what tirerack or discounttires have them for. Oh well.
So they made out the check to myself and the lien holder. Since the damage is mainly to missing wheels the bank will categorize it as a self repair so it does not have to go to a body shop. I will still have to send in the check with before and after pictures of the car and then they will endorse it and send back to me. |
How much was it for?
You don't need to accept the insurance company's first offer |

They also said the rotors did not need replacing and just needed to be resurfaced. |

Them that labor might be $42 in the ghettos of Houston... And no one will reprogram TPMS for $42, or take all your discs off and resurface them for $42/hour either |

that insurance lady should be fired lol sucks she questioned you like that. you are correct, if claim gets paid out of comprehensive it doesnt impact rates. it will appear in the motor veh report but its nothing major if you should ever change insurance companies. if they see a pattern then its a cause for concern. sorry to hear about wheels
|
He just said if it cost more to sync the sensors to just send him the invoice and he'll cut me another check for the difference.
Actually it was $70/hr for mechanical work and $42/hr for body/refinish work. |

Thats a damn shame. It would make me feel kind of violated. One the other hand, I still have some very nice ISS 20's that would look alot better than those bricks. I don't know what was on "the Mazda" before, but...Could be a win - win, but only if you are interested. Just throwin it out there.

What a burn bro! I just saw this thread. Hopefully everything gets resolved asap! Post Pics of the new rims when you get them!
|
wow, sorry to hear and see, op. :(
why would someone call our Z's a mazda? that is like tabasco over an open wound... :ugh2: |
I'm not looking to blow the check on nice rims...I don't track and Houston roads are a pita. I'm considering either the Weds SA15R or Avant Garde M310...tough choice.
I forgot to mention that the manager (I think) at the progressive service center was a cool guy. He heard me talking with my appraiser about the labor costs and that they priced base wheel tires in my estimate. The appraiser, a female (not sexist), was like "Your vin number showed the 18" tires and that is what the parts person said" I was like...uhhhhhh. So he pulled me into his office and told me to google the 40th edition for him and he was able to get everything fixed. Found out he had a sti swapped subaru rs which he gave me a ride in...forgotten how fun it is to be in a turbo car (one of my previous cars was a '05 sti). BP kit is definitely in my future! |
Get expensive wheels, you especially need them for Houston's roads, so that they can take a beating. I have gained a lot of respect for truly forged wheels over the past year, and it's gotta be one of the best safety features of the car.
|
like most things in life you get what you pay for, cheap rims are cheap for a reason. Go to a shop and see and feel the difference.

All 370z (minus Nismo vin) show up as 18" wheels and other base items, because the upgraded wheels are listed under the sport package and many times it just list that as an option with no details. |

If I'm not mistaken he lives in or near MedCenter which isnt cheap living since that's where most doctors and nurses live. Renting out a garage there would add an extra $200-300 a month to rent which there for a 1 bedroom is already $1300-$1500 a month... Dunno how they do in Chi-Town but theives in Houston operate a little different lol..They don't rob the poor, they rob the rich nieghborhoods and if its a organized, they ship it up North or Cali and sell it at a "steal" :bowrofl: since everything has inflated prices there anyways... |
Damn thieves! Makes me soo mad...

Ok, let me qualify myself. I am a licensed insurance agent although I have never written an auto policy my specialty is marine. But a policy is a policy which is a legal document. Somewhere in the policy definitions it will tell you what the company is obligated to pay and usually that's all the company will pay for. Of course everyone on TV sells "cheap" insurance and as we all know you get what you pay for. Trust me I'm no fan of the companies I work for the customer. A few suggestions: you get a lot more with honey than salt so don't go ripping *** on the company rep. She is a salaried employee and naturally paranoid from dealing with all the gypsies, tramps & thieves that hose insurance companies. Make nice and do her work yourself. Go to the dealer and or price out all the damaged stuff yourself. Photo document all of the damage and send her a summary in writting of the cost of repairs. DO NOT use an outside adjuster as they will take a piece of the action for basically doing nothing in your case. If you like you can send me a PM and you can email the policy & I will point to the language that states exactly what the company is obligated to pay. So when Flo tells you you can save money by picking your own coverage that's freakin nuts. As someone who doesn't know anything about insurance you have a cheap policy but it won't cover bupkiss when you need it!!! My buddies Escalade got jacked in the exact same manor right in front of his house with a boat trailer & flats boat attached.....Here if ya need me.
