Desperately in need of wheels

Ok guys here's the deal. About two weeks ago I found my car on blocks with the wheels stolen. State Farm has taken way too long to get their stuff together and yesterday my apartment complex had my car towed (without talking to me) because they thought it was "abandoned." Now my car is sitting in a towing yard and I don't have a way to pick it up. I could have the towing company drop it off at the dealership if they had my replacement wheels in stock, but they won't take it as it is and it will take over a week for the new wheels to come in. If I leave my car at the towing yard my expensive stereo will be stolen and I'm sure they will charge me out the *** for storage.

The only thing I can think to do is find wheels as cheap as possible that will fit temporarily. Does anyone know where I can look for steelies that will fit a 370? I'm scouring craigslist looking for cheap 114.3 - 5 wheels to buy if I absolutely have to. I also called a local "Rent-to-own" wheel place and they can't help me.

This is a long shot but if someone in the Orlando area has stock rims sitting in their garage and would be willing to help I would be eternally grateful and I can pay you for your time.

Nick

PS: I know I don't have many posts here and I'm sorry if this is on the wrong board but I'm really desperate.

da mayor 03-25-2014 12:26 PM

do you have the spare tire?

Ubetit 03-25-2014 12:30 PM

He might have a big nose too but I'm not sure how either one of those helps his situation

kenchan 03-25-2014 12:46 PM

did they use wheels when they towed your car? :ugh2:

ufoz8mycow 03-25-2014 01:25 PM

Damn I can't imagine how completely f*cked the underside of your car must be by now.... Here's to hoping that insurance will come through and fix all the damage caused by ineptitude. This thread caused me physical pain to look at.

coolvans1988 03-25-2014 02:46 PM

You're apartment complex should pay for the tow and the storage.. Their fault for having it towed. I assume that your Z is registered to the apartment as you as the owner.

ElVee 03-25-2014 02:49 PM

Not to state the obvious, but once you get some wheels, you better ask about a garage at your apartment complex. Thieves now know where to look.

zae757 03-25-2014 03:03 PM

Custom wheel locks this go round...they'll just steal the entire car next time

fuct 03-25-2014 03:43 PM

they stole your base wheels or did you have something else on there?

sorry to hear man. someone on the forums in the area has to have some base wheels to borrow or "rent". where are you Floridians?

YzGyz 03-25-2014 03:46 PM

get 4 spares from 4 local 370z?

go to tire place and pay to rent 4 steelies?

get altima wheels? (My bro's coupe's wheels fit my car"

File and get **** strait with your apartment!! That's just bs!! your a PAYING renting tenet. WTF!!!

Have insurance company look over the car good and have damages fixed...

Chuck33079 03-25-2014 03:48 PM

OP, had you talked to the complex management before they had the car towed?

i would think a talk with them right after calling the cops would be proper protocol, no?

I'm sure he gave them the "FYI, the car had its wheels stolen" heads up. So they turned around and towed it anyway?

Beachhz 03-25-2014 04:03 PM

Ouch, I feel the pain just reading this. If I lived in the Orlando area, I would no doubt let you borrow my stock Mazda wheels. They're 5x114.3 as well.

Update: I found a guy that loaned me his stock evo x wheels for a week or two. The look like they will fit well enough to take across town and sit at the dealer.

Yes, they were the base model wheels. I never thought someone would steal these small ones.

I never told management about the theft (stupid I know :shakes head:) I just filed a police report and started working on the insurance. Management claims they put a tag on the windshield saying I have 48 hours to do something about it but they're probably lying because I would have noticed it. More importantly they have my tag number in their system from when I signed my lease. Would it really have been that hard to put a note on my door? I ripped management a new one, but now I can only take a deep breath and deal with it. I know for a fact State Farm will pay for any damage done to the car when it was (I assume) dragged onto the trailer. It's now sitting on tires at the tow yard and I'm, going to deal with that tomorrow. It's going to break my heart when I see it.

I fit all four 18" wheels in the back of my girlfriends Prius C. I'm impressed they all fit. My fairlady will feel like a damn Ferrari after driving this 99hp hybrid for a month.

your car is going to be so ****** up. go for a complete total out? now that the under carriage is beyond ****** most likely.

KramChaos 03-25-2014 05:58 PM

What side of town are you on?? Sorry to hear about the theft and the tow...hope they put some wheels on before they attempted to tow it

FuTuRe is Z 03-26-2014 02:01 AM

I can't believe they towed it without the wheels being on the car, how inconsiderate of the housing complex. Wouldn't it be readily apparent that the wheels were clearly stolen off the car and that it may have been a tenants.

See if you can get a lawyer to fight for your case.

SmokeEater27 03-26-2014 11:38 AM

Sorry to hear OP, Sucks to see people dont respect another persons things. There were a bunch of wheels being stolen as well in the gated "private" garage at the complex I just moved out of. The management company of the complex pretty much shrugged their shoulders to the situation and gave the victims the option of breaking their lease without any penalty. Hope everything works out for you man, and I'd keep an eye out towards the Kissimme area.

Redglare 03-26-2014 01:12 PM

I can't even begin to imagine what I would do if I found out my car was sitting on bricks.... now If I then found out it was towed with no wheels... heads would roll.

DjSquall 03-26-2014 03:53 PM

1) not telling anything to your complex mgmt was not a smart thing to do.
2) I'd call a lawyer

dkznyc 03-26-2014 04:10 PM

Hope things work out for you. That's enough to make a grown man cry

Codename067 03-26-2014 05:21 PM

Shouldn't you be able to sue the towing company if there is damage to the car?? They cant just tow a car because they think its abandoned..not as far as I know at least.

Sucks about your wheels man. Pathetic low life thieves. hopefully everything gets resolved quickly for you.

2011 Nismo#91 03-27-2014 08:39 AM

Terrible, sucky situation for anyone but glad you found some wheels for now.
1. Good that you yelled at the mgmt for towing your car. There's no reason they couldn't contact you, they had all the information they needed and it's not like you never parked there before and it was an unfamiliar car.
2. Have your insurance pay for any obvious damage from towing or when they jacked your car up to take its wheels. It's hard to find who caused the damage, the thieves, the tow company, or a speed bump at some other time. Important thing is to get it repaired correctly and completely.
3. Get a car alarm with a tilt sensor! Wheel locks only keep the honest people honest. Park in well lit spaces when possible. Turn your front wheels all the way to the left or right so the can't get them off.

There are a few ways to properly tow a car without wheels the most effective being a dolly and a standard tow truck.

Ouch. Sorry to hear. There is a pretty good following in the SouthEast forum in the Florida thread. Im sure a few of the central florida members would have been willing to lend you 4 spare tires.

I'd also keep an eye on Craigslist. But I willing to bet your wheels are now sitting on another nissan in Kissimmee, since I hear thats where all the stolen cars in Orlando end up.

andytn3591 03-27-2014 09:28 AM

My heart broke when I see this thread :shakes head:

I would punch the **** manager in the face for towing the car without wheels. Your car was registered and they should call you before towing the car. Make them pay for the towing, and try to ask for a total loss. Just imagine that they drag the car on the ground to get it to the tow truck makes me sick. :shakes head::shakes head::shakes head:

I had this exact thing happen to me. My renters insurance covered everything!!! Check into it

*I know people are wondering why; its because your car is an extension of your home :)

Quick question about this - does the renter's insurance only cover the vehicle if it is stored on the property the plan is for?

Asking for those of us that store our vehicles off site (winter storage etc.)

Thanks!

jdsto 03-27-2014 06:41 PM

you should have fire and theft insurance on a stored vehicle. You can cancel your liability and collision when winter stored. Your home owners insurance is unlikely to cover your vehicle in anyway if stored offsite.

tnav 03-27-2014 07:19 PM

This made me so sick, ask a Lawyer and take it from there. One phone call or letter from the lawyer will get everyone's *** on fire and going

Being that he never notified the complex about anything, I would say there's probably no point in getting a lawyer.

Got_Z 03-28-2014 12:33 AM

Damn good luck bud. I'm got goosebumps just thinking about the condition of your undercarriage....

This. Never thought about doing this. What a great idea! I will be doing this when I park in a public area overnight. :tiphat:

I thought this was a great idea too, but don't the post mid-year 2011 cars not have a steering lock mechanism, therefore you can literally turn the wheel by grabbing the tire?

And even then, anyone who actually has an ESCL should have the fuse pulled so it doesn't fail and leave them stranded :shakes head: I've never tried turning the wheel like that with the tires on the ground. I'm sure it's difficult but not impossible.

Right but it's just an added form of protection. Just like wheel locks. A real thief will get what he wants regardless!

ZeroZeta 03-28-2014 05:23 PM

HotBlackDez - How are the temp wheels?

Any update on what kind of damage occurred to the underside of the car from the tow + wheel theft?
