no details.... trolling..

Not to be devil's advocate but seeing as we don't have any details , no how or why or when, I'm getting the feeling that there is more to this than just it was stolen. This smells more like Pissed off GF took my Effin Car, took the plates off and stashed it somewhere cause I didn't clean the bathroom, Mop the floors, pick up the trash, etc. Or it was Towed from my Apt complex because of some dumb reason like i parked in a Fire zone knowingly with the EFF YOU attitude towards the complex, and lastly my other option in this w/ no details is that it was Repo'd.

Just my thoughts. <=------ Is very leery with out pics, details and more information.

If it was repo'd (or towed for parking violation) it wouldn't be somewhere random and it def. wouldn't have the plates removed. Not unless the bank had taken the car back already or someone else received title on it.

14 years ago a guy I new from school had a car stolen and the cops found it in perfect condition a few days later without the ignition even being broken, heck they even added some electronics. The Feds camera, mic and GPS they installed got him 30 years fed time when he got back from Miami.

dpham124 03-27-2014 02:45 PM

the guy was a pro . my key fob no longer works for the car and had to get it towed autonation nissan in dallas to get it reprogramed and what not. the car suffered no damage what so ever. currently working on getting a garage at my apartment complex and a viper alarm system for the vehicle.

OP

Did you pull the steering lock fuse? I did and have wondered if it was a greater liability.

Congratulations on the reunion.

So what intrigues me is if he was a pro how did he get access to your fobs RFID frequency. Since there was no damage at all to the car that indicates to me that he did not have access to your odb port to do a hot flash and substitute a new blank fob in. He would have had to been close enough to trap your code at some point while you were unlocking at some point and then use it to gain access. However my question is why? Is there anything special about your z from others? Is your car more valued in your complex than others? I mean I can see this happening to a BMW or Benz just not our car in all honesty. Just giving my two cents. Glad to see you have your car back either way. Also on the same note do you live in an area where car theft is an issue? Only reason why I call so much speculation is that I am an ex-Leo and these are some the first things as one we assess when I was working calls or cases like this. To me there are too many red flags to just have a car like this up and "pro" style theft and very minimal details

Sent from my iPad using this typy clicker thingy!!!

Wait...what?

ElVee 03-27-2014 04:21 PM

1) Why would someone take the plates? I know you can use them on other cars, especially if you're skipping through several areas and just stringing along stolen cars, but...? Lack of a fence/outlet for selling the car/parts, but ability to sell the plates? Why not just take everyone's plates in a parking lot?

2) I'm curious to hear more about the method of theft and your fob no longer working. Any thoughts as to what happened/how? Perhaps when I hit Defcon this year there will be more auto security talks...but things like this always interest me due to the ease of attack once the info is out.

Highly doubt it and the only reason why i say this and question it is, that my GF and I Drive our 370Z in uptown and work in uptown daily. Not to mention i drive our other car which is keyless also with SmartFob as well (Lexus IS250) and have never ever had any issues with people trying to PRO steal our cars, not to mention all the other 370z's i see in this area, i can point out 4 just in a 4 mi block of me right now. (don't know those people per se, but I know they are 2 white 370z's, one Platinum Grey, and one Nismo Black.)

....even my mother has a handful of pics of her GTI

Just can't fathom a person not having at least a few good shots of their bad investment laying around lol

I'm 29, and mine is also my pride and joy. I'm just not the "take pictures of things" type.
