OK, some of ya'all need to chill a little.

First, I will gladly take a newB pill for 370Z since, yes I did just get one. However, I have been around forums since they were called bulletin boards, you know, with a 300 baud modem, and have kinda been lurkin' here for two years. So when I posted about the Stillen front license plate mounting bracket I thought was cool ... I did do a search for other threads and after the first three pages I decided that hey, maybe some of the many new members/owners showing up in the Introduction page might think it was cool not to have to drill holes in their front facia. Apparently I was wrong.

Some crusty old fart [BTW, I resemble that remark (just not 370Z crusty) and reserve the right to call anybody else the same] decided that there were many other threads that already discussed this. There were… four… pointed out, three from 2011 or before, (no wonder I didn’t find them) the last for 6-13 discussing Nismo brackets, I don't have a Nismo. So... after all that...

I am still here and I will still probably make some newB errors in some of the eyes of you crusty old farts (remember, I am one), have some patience, be kind, we will run into each other if you are on the middle of the right coast USA, because I do intend to show up at some club events and go to autoX events to get myself thoroughly thrashed. It is all part of the learning experience right? All ya'all were there once.

Thanks for reading this far. And I still think that license plate bracket is cool. Ordered mine and it is on the way.

Eh, there's a lot of guys here who bitch and moan when someone new makes a thread they feel is stupid or unwarranted. Just put them on your ignore list and go about your day. Search first (using google) but by now, there have been so many threads on common topics that the search function gets unwieldy.

Also, I don't think JAR was trying to be an ***, he was just pointing you in the direction of the existing discussions.

Now if you make a thread about what kind of oil to use, you will be beaten. :rofl2:

Was I over the top in my rant?

I get that way sometimes. No oil threads. That research is done.

And you know, now that you say that, you are most likely correct, On a re-read, I believe he was just pointing the way.

Apologies to JAR and I'll just shut up now.

you're good jpkirk.

yah, no oil threads per AK370Z.

ZeeBabar 03-13-2014 10:40 AM

I did not drill holes. I have zip tied the front licence plate. Holding up good through car washes and all.

kenchan 03-13-2014 10:47 AM

i think the point of those stillen plate holders is the ability to easily remove it during a photo shoot or car show.

i personally do not use my car in shows so i just used the factory bracket. i use a black hard felt cover over the plate when i take snaps.

the snaps you will find in my albums page... lol

Don't sweat it op. Ask away. I follow a few message boards for different hobbies, and they have all the same kind of people. Trolls, arrogant knowitalls ect. On a site like this where the enthusiast cover a broad spectrum of mechanical and technical expertise, you can expect some guy to feel insulted about having to read a simple question (that might of been discussed months or years ago)

Ignore them and move on and don't be embarrassed about askin questions. Hell I'm going to shop for wheels (vossen cv3 model) in the next few months, and even after reading all the fitment threads I am positive ill have plenty of dumb questions since my technical understanding is horrible ...must of missed that gene

I have to agree with you at some point as there are a lot of smart asses in this forum including myself from time to time. I'm pretty sure it's in a joking nature for the most part so take things in stride.

Remember that little white search box on the top right of the screen is your friend to prevent the flames. :argue:

Drex 03-13-2014 05:54 PM

this is what happens to all forums over time. newbs can't win. if you ask a question that has been asked before, people will bitch that you should search. if you bump an old thread on the same topic to ask a question, people will bitch about necroing an old thread.

I dare you to post about "which intake.......".

H2O_Doc 03-13-2014 06:42 PM

This is one of the better (maybe best) forums that I frequent. Having said that, I do see more "use the dang search function" replies than I'd like. I can't fathom taking the time to post such a reply when it is much easier to move on. It so much easier to let someone else reply or let the question go unanswered than it is to act like a douche. I sometimes wonder what the internal process is that leads to such posts.

edconline 03-13-2014 07:09 PM

While it is usually better to search first, and look at the threads of old, that can be a double-edged sword.. There was this one time, that a guy posting in the 'Parts for Sale' sub-forum REALLLLLLLLY wanted some Nismo wheels, and boy did he use the search function :shakes head:

Yeah sometimes there is some (mostly) good-natured firm reminders about the search button, I still think we have a pretty awesome forum. Especially when you look at 90% of the other forums out there
