Use a full synthetic of the appropriate weight. Use a quality filter. Did we really need oil thread #423,672?

:iagree:
For a DD, use a high-quality oil/filter and change "often." Just about any major brand synthetic oil will do very well. Same for filters. See the many other threads on this site (and probably every other car-enthusiast site) for different opinions on which oil/filter is the "best."

Ester is not that big of a deal. Supposedly it will help quiet the valvetrain but it's expensive and, from what I've read, has a fairly short life.

I use Nissan ester oil/filter and change at 3500-4000 miles but, for the way I drive, that's overkill. Any good syn oil/filter at 5000-6000 miles should be better than what most DDs require. If you drive in a hot area or drive hard, you might want to change more often.

Uh huh. Why do you like it? Is it because with Royal Purple you get fewer catastrophic oil-related engine failures than you do with Mobil 1?

I just did mine, I used Redline Synthetic 5w30 and a Purolator PL14610 filter

FWIW, I use Mobil 1 because it costs $25 for 5 qts at Walmart.
