How hot?

First off, this is not another oil temp thread ;) But rather it has to do with high temps in another area... the interior. I got my hands on a nifty little USB data logger that records temperature values based on user configurable sampling intervals. It basically looks like a large thumb drive. I decided to run a few experiments to see how hot the interior was getting while the Z was sitting outside in the summer sun. Not totally scientific but interesting data none the less.

So here's the scenario. Use a PC application to tell the logger to record a temperature reading every 10 sec. Drop it in the car and drive to work. Leave the logger inside to cook and retrieve at the end of the day. BTW I keep the windows fully up, sun shade up, and the logger is never in direct sunlight. Finally, download data to PC when I get home. Its easy to see when the AC was cranking at the end of the day.

WOW!.We are really getting anal now! Day temps inside car while parked?Amazing how the young generation is facinated with electronic gadgets!
Just imagine if you put that energy into something useful rather then worrying about the temp inside your car while it is parked?
I though the 60's and drugs burnt out quite a few minds? This electronic gadgetry is starting at a young age and now we are seeing the results.Scary!

Bah! That's a really STUPID statement... I'm Old (yeah, OLD) and have a pair of these dataloggers. Using them I've come up with techniques to cool the engine bay which has extended the life of components and saved lots of $$ for MANY of my friends on another forum. It's also helped me fine tune a unique insulated airbox that I've sold all over the world. Yeah, inside temps aren't so critical, but don't dis the tools and gadgets as they can be very valuable in diagnosis and consequent improvements. Throw away your timing light and Get with the times..

I agree with Modshack :iagree:

Very cool needforZ . The interior plastic used on the new Z WILL tear if it's left untreated in HOT sun for long periods of time. Minicobra's topic: http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...plit-heat.html

That's why I invested in a good sun and UV ray windshield protector. HERE http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...ct-review.html

Just curious if anyone has done something like this before and after tint. I'm currently in Mississippi and the car is my DD, it sits outside in the hot sun all day while I'm at work, however it does sleep in my garage with it's own pillows, blanket, and TV when at home.. With all the talk about interior pieces cracking due to heat though, I need to really get a solution to the heat real quick fast and in a hurry!

Oh and on a side note someone on this board got me in trouble with my wife. I was talking to her about ordering new stereo stuff for the Z and she said we should spend the money on new stuff for the house (tear down our deck and build a better one).. so I used the line I got off this site "Well, we can live in the Z, but we can't race the house".. needless to say I got hit for that one...So whoever it was that put that line out there, fess up. My wife wants a word with you lol

Grandpa sees the temps inside the car for what they are.Far more important things to keep tabs on.Besides the windshield covers for the inside have been out for quite some time and with window tint its a no brainer!

Forrest 09-01-2009 04:56 PM

what are you guys "treating" your interior with? been wondering about this for some days.
