Reliability of Factory Alarm

I was getting in my car and accidentally set off the panic alarm, the key was in my pocket, so I started to car to see what would happen. The car started, and the alarm kept going. I had to push the panic button again to turn it off.

Why didnt it do one or the other, not let me start the car, or started the car and turn the alarm off. A $30k+ sportscar and you'd think it would come with a better alarm system.

It seems as though you are trying really hard to nit-pick. It's as if the car's alarm had indeed shut off after starting the engine, you would have posted "Why doesn't the alarm stay on while someone's driving away in my car?!"

BTW, what's up with everyone pulling the "For a $30K car..." crap? Does everyone realize that $30K nowadays is cheap for a car? Hell...a fully-loaded Civic will come damn near $30K. You're hard pressed to find something halfway-decent besides a stripped economy-car under $30K. The whole "I expect more out of a $30K car" crap is laughable.

I guess everyone wants wine on a beer budget.

The panic alarm is just that, a panic alarm. The feature is there for you to use in the event you feel "threatened" and want to have a way to sound an alarm, not to stop the theft of your vehicle by disabling it. In the event of a threatening situation, you might actually want the ability to start your car and drive away. Lastly, if/when you press the panic alarm button and the alarm sounds, you can press any of the buttons on your intelligent key and the alarm will shut off. This is out of the Nissan Electronic Quick Reference Guide DVD section on the Intelligent Key features. You'd have to invest in an aftermarket anti-theft alarm system were you to want to disable the start I'd think.

I agree with JoeD. Average price of a new car is over $28,000 Average new vehicle cost: $28,715, down 3% A $30+ sportscar is nice but is not really expensive by any means...

I wouldn't call the Z's factory system an alarm system anyway. It's more of just a deterrant. You'd have to go aftermarket to get a true alarm system with the features you probably want. That or buy a $60k+ sportscar that one would think should have a premium factory-included alarm system...

Nissan has made some of the best advancements in stock alarm systems in the price range.
New key fobs make this thing almost impervious to hotwire. Try n find another car in the price range with immobilizer standard. Nissan maxima had the 1st encrypted locks in the 80's. Maximas were the hottest cars to steal until nissan made them into lil fortresses. Then they turned to accord n civic. Nissan is the only inexpensive car company I know to offer Laser etched windows so they can't be sold in junkyards without sparking alerts.
Its gonna be pretty hard to steal this car unless they put a gun to your head.
And really... why does it matter that u have to shut off the alarm with a panic button? I mean really.

Its not a viper alarm system its the same as most cars. There is an immobilizer on the vehicle where if i remember from the manual the vehicle will shut down after a few minutes if the fob isnt in the car or it wont let the vehicle go over a certain RPM. Its in the manual though. If somebody is going to steal your car in the traditional sense the car factory alarm is fine.

1. You wont be near the car as it will be parked.

2. You will have the key fob with you

3. Somebody breaks the window tries to hop in by opening the door alarm goes off. They try to start the car it won't, if they do get by that the immobilizer kicks in.
