Just Released - New Billet Style Fuel Door Decals for Nissan 350Z and 370Z

SPOHN 01-18-2014 04:34 PM

Simulated. Uh.....No

Waiz 01-18-2014 08:09 PM

I thought this trend died out in 2006?

SPOHN 01-18-2014 09:42 PM

Now if you were to remove the quarter window and install a fuel downspout there with a steel door. WIN.

This Billet Style would be my only choice if I decided to change & It may be a long time before somebody in town installs one to look at in person, think about it guys the 370Z is pretty much low production. But its the one for me

The carbon fiber door looks kind of tacky to me. One carbon fiber piece sitting out in the middle of a clear paint job? That just seems to scream Auto Zone ricer to me. Might as well get a stick on hood scoop and some stick on side vents to go with it. At least then you'd have a theme going.

The decal I'm afraid looks even worse. It contains the above issue as well as looking like a half-assed attempt.

Now a real billet door wouldn't look bad, but that curve in the fender would make that a pain in the *** to pull off and look right.

SPOHN's idea sounds cool. I most likely wouldn't do it, but I could imagine it looking pretty neat.

A carbon fiber "look" where it is non-functional, like CF door handle overlays, CF mirror wraps, CF overlays all over the dashboard, etc. look ricey any way you can count them. I don't understand why people want to ugly up their cars with CF glue on wraps. It reminds me of the late 80's "white out" look or late 90's Fast & Furious LED and neon Pep Boys junk. :stirthepot:

Don't. Forget your 24" rims to match your billet fuel door.

Shadezz 01-22-2014 11:08 AM

I don't mind the custom route....but something like this would be cool..

Waiz 01-22-2014 04:13 PM

The Viper has always had that type of fuel filler door, the problem with adding it to a Z is that it would look out of place

Having that custom fabricated would 1) ruin your fuel filler door and would decrease the the value of your car if you ever sold it and 2) be at least a couple hundred dollars to have done.

Why not just let the Viper guys have this mod on their cars and stay true to the Z brand and keep it the way it is?

Obviously the fuel doors on the Zs are a bit weak and troublesome. I would like to find a door that doesn't get broken off at the car wash. I thought my doors were locked. I go to a touchless wash, no brushes. I don't like hand washing unless I absolutely have to so I don't scratch the black paint with the dirt in the sponge or wash mitt. With my prior experience on other vehicles, when I hand wash I rinse the sponge or mitt frequently, but the paint still gets fine scratches and swirls. I've been using this touchless wash for the last 10 years or so, never had a problem with my other cars or trucks, and they all had fuel doors. I never drive in snow or salt, I just want to get the dust off, which this particular wash does an outstanding job of.

I don't like the fake doors.

Had an aluminum door on my Stang - really liked it

dannonebr 01-29-2014 08:35 PM

Nice 'stang! I have an aluminum fuel door on my Dodge 3500 and it looks good on it. I don;t know about the Z, unless it was painted black maybe and had the same contour as the orginal door? After thinking about for a bit and searching around the net, looks like the fuel doors are a problem on the Z. I plan to continue to visit my favorite car wash but will take these precautions.... First, place a roll of Gorilla tape in the car and TAPE the door shut before entering the wash. Two, make sure the doors are electrically locked prior to entering wash. Three, after exiting the wash remove the tape when I am drying off the car. Gorilla tape is tough, hope it doesn't take off the paint ;). The fuel door is obviously a design problem, just have to make due. I really DO like this car though!

SouthArk370Z 01-29-2014 09:41 PM

If the lock on the fuel door is working, there should be no need to tape it shut. If I were going to tape it shut, I'd use something like blue masking tape. Should be a LOT easier on the paint and, if any glue is left behind, it will be much easier to clean.

I wouldn't take my car through a car wash with brushes (or a brushless with enough force to open the door) in the first place.

Datsun240Z71 01-30-2014 07:42 AM

The fuel door locks when the car's doors are locked.
