...........I'll post details and hopefully a few pictures. As a reminder .... install date is Wednesday, Jan. 13.

I know what you mean by Winter Trash......salt, sand, pieces of gravel and all that junk dropping off 18 wheelers when they hit a bump. Also it is really bad when all that stuff builds up along the concrete barriers and is whipped up by trucks and the high winds. It's Dangerous out there this time of year. Then we also have the I-35 Gravel Alley. First week of October I took a trip to Tyler, TX and got a couple of chips with just 400 miles on the car. :shakes head: You just can't be too careful. So no Z days for me either during bad weather and until all the junk is worn off the roads.

I'd like to find someone around here that can do a clear bra. I need to look into it. Hope the camera install goes well.

I had this back up camera install put on my Z back in June. I thought the US Z was the same as the Japan model, but no such luck. There is no harness or harness in the back of the navigation unit. However the auto shop that installed mine did a GREAT job and was just as my Infiniti G37 Coupe does. I had it installed in the little knock out plug right underneth the Lic. Plate. I looks good there and also has a way better view for backing up and not just at the ground. I have one picture to post now. If anyone is interested for more just ask.

Cjanik 01-13-2010 12:19 AM

^^ clever idea. I simply drilled a hole it right next to the license plate light (near-center blank) and mounted it right there.

Do you have the factory NAV? and if so does your NAV switch to rear view when you go into reverse?

Antbear PM'd me today and his shop is wondering about locations of factory plugs, what did your audio shop do to get it working? tapped into wires?

rhood 01-13-2010 07:24 AM

There is no harness to connect into, but the shop just used all the pieces that came with the camera which it looks like you have the same clarion I got. And yes it comes on just like the Infiniti's do only in reverse. You do have the option of having it come on all the time with a switch mounted but I didnt want that. I wanted set up like factory. It took them only about 30 minutes to an hour to install.

I just got off the phone and my shop cannot figure out how to do this install. Your successful install is the best news I've had in a long time especially since you live in Tulsa. So you have the same kit as I have shown in the pictures? Which shop did you use in Tulsa?

I would be interested in seeing all the pictures you have for this install.......as I'm sure everyone on the site would t

Cjanik asked...................
*****Do you have the factory NAV? and if so does your NAV switch to rear view when you go into reverse?*****

I am anxious to know the answer to this question too.

rhood is using an aftermarket Clarion system....Are you? Seems like setting up a rear camera with any of the aftermarket head units is a no brainer...

I have the kit from Nissan.....notice they use a Clarion box......left click on the picture.

Cjanik 01-13-2010 09:46 PM

hmm, Modshack, sounds like your saying rhood does not have the OEM nav unit?

antbear 01-13-2010 10:19 PM

I agree................unless you have the factory nav.

rhood 01-14-2010 09:44 PM

Lol Not sure why you would assume I have a aftermarket Navigation system but I don't, Its factory. I have the same camera as antbear does. I took it to Car Toys by the Woodland Hills Mall in Tulsa. It took about an hour and works just like my G37 coupe does. Put it in reverse and its on. Like I said before I didnt want it installed looking at the ground so the way its installed I can see a complete area view (Big Range). I also installed an eclipse dvd player behind my passsager seat in the glove box. It looks factory installed. The picture is great and sound even better. I will take pics this weekend of both the dvd and the backup screen and post for you. Antbear if you want Car Toys number let me know and I will gladly get it for you.

Ah...Misunderstood the reference to the Clarion box...Carry on!

rhood 01-14-2010 09:52 PM

LOL I thought so Modshack, No its the real deal. I will have to look but I bought the camera from a gentleman on ebay that does them on GTR's. But I was thinking it would have to be the same install as that car. I asked him and he didnt know but the next day he sent me the wiring set up and he said his installer said it was the same , So I bought is and it was great. I will post this weekend and let you see it from the screen itself

antbear 01-15-2010 12:59 PM

rhood said: "Antbear if you want Car Toys number let me know and I will gladly get it for you."

I sure would appreciate their phone number and a contact person since I have hit a dead end with my installers.

rhood 01-16-2010 07:10 PM

Hey the number to Car Toys is (918)254-5093. I will post pictures tomorrow for you as well.

scruffydog 01-16-2010 11:15 PM

This is good stuff guys! Keep the thread rolling as I and many others will be interested in doing this. I'm picking up a 2010 Nav 370z next month and I hope it can still work for a 2010 version.

antbear 01-16-2010 11:22 PM

:tup:Thanks for the number. Looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Pretty slick!

rhood 01-18-2010 07:56 PM

Thanks Jones!!

WooZ 01-18-2010 09:10 PM

Looks really good.

antbear 01-19-2010 08:52 AM

Thanks for the pictures. That view looks good. If the camera had been mounted up by the tag using the OEM bracket would the view show a smaller area?

rhood 01-19-2010 12:59 PM

Yes becasue the car is lower than the average so the installer showed me both views and I like the view better from where it is mounted now. Like I said the pictures I took there is kind of hard to see but it really is a good view and great color and clairity.

Thanks for the update. Do you think the view would be helpful when backing out of an angle park? Would you be able to see the traffic?

rhood 01-19-2010 06:36 PM

Absolutely it would, I can see for all angles with the camera installed in this position.

:tiphat: Sorry for overlooking your post. I just noticed your question. Cost was $562 with shipping included. Here is a another posting of the link.

japanparts.com : PARTS DATABASE

BTW..........What happened to the AAM Competition 370TT thread that was promised from AAM? Here is the statement made in AAM's last post: "I am closing this thread (and then deleting it shortly) and I will be starting an official AAM 370TT thread in the next day or so." Did you get your car back in great TT modified working order????

If I have overlooked the link I would appreciate someone posting it.

Thanks..................

I've done so much research that ive ripped my entire car apart, installed a factory OEM camera, and connected all the wires that I believed to be necessary.(made up my own wires, no harness) I got the camera to work, I just cant fiqure out what wire will trigger the nav to switch to CAM AUX INPUT until you go out of reverse then switch back to the last mode.

with that said, yes this kit will work, I dont care what that 370tune guy says, the kit WILL WORK. it is the same kit used on all nissan's and infiniti's, same plugs, same units, same everything.

the downside? I dont think our 370z comes with a steering angle sensor (could be wrong). if thats the case, the lines that appear on the camera will not move right or left with your steering wheel.

Rhood, what about these steering lines does your unit display them and do they move with the steering wheel??

rhood 02-02-2010 09:08 PM

No the unit does not have the steering lines on it. I do believe you can purchase the back up camera from Nissan to fit the Murano and it is the same as the nav unit in the Z. Well thats what the parts man here told me.

FuszNissan 02-02-2010 10:46 PM

Did you get the camera to work yet?

rhood..................

I have not scheduled my install because of the bad weather we've had. Don't want to drive the 180 miles round trip with all that junk on the turnpike.

Did those guys do your install with just a camera or a complete kit like I bought?

wheee! 02-04-2010 05:24 PM

keep us posted! We are all dying to see this thing work like it should!!!

by the sound of it, it was not the factory camera like you bought. reason I say that is the factory camera (the clarion unit you have), puts lines on the display. there's no way around it, its the one and only reason that the box is required. (that and to turn the NAV to rear view when you go in reverse).

your parts man is correct; you can get it from the murano, G37, GTR (JDM), FX#, etc etc. its all the same.

rhood 02-05-2010 07:15 AM

It came with a switch, harness and connectors. They had it installed in about 1 1/2 hrs. Very clean works great. Not sure how true it is but was told thats its not the camera that has the backup lines in it, its the head unit that makes the lines??

Cjanik 02-05-2010 10:57 AM

^^ IN order for the camera to turn on in reverse, you have to hit the switch?

And to answer your question, its the camera control unit (CCU) that puts in the lines.

rhood 02-05-2010 06:25 PM

No it switches on by itself when put in reverse, just like my Infiniti G37 Coupe

Has there been any updates to this thru Nissan? Package details and arrival dates....?

spryor 03-06-2010 04:45 PM

Hi Antbear,

Did you get the instruction manual with the factory backup camera set? If so, could you share it with us in the form of a .PDF file?

Thank you,

spryor
